Well the most of the Granite towers are gone now... really strange after looking at them for 21 years :crying: !! I'll try and find the original pics... I've been really lazy with the camera lately, it hasn't left my desk at home!! The helicopter is a KMAX - really cool machine!

Well... they've not had a haul rope or sheave assemblies on them since 1996, and they're in the middle of a great run, and they're just plain ugly after 8 years of neglect

Why did they leave them there in the first place?

Because the helicopter to take then out costs $6000/hr... The old owners couldn't afford it.

There is still one at the top, as well as the top bullwheel.... Well the drive is still there, but that's our storage. Remember, we have a whole other operating lift with those kind of towers!!

You use the old drive as storage, too? For a long time, we used the motor room of chair 4 at Baker for storage (okay, it was still an operating lift, but anyway). I don't know if they still do that now the lift's been torn down.

Yeah - it's a HUGE building... It used to have bathrooms, a maintenance room, ski patrol amd LONG carriage travel rails... so a perfect storage room, even if the drive motor is still in it :)

A bit off topic here, but how about a pic or two of those new Paradise chairs Allan? Murray-Latta built 'em for you, I seem to recall you saying. The grips are new too, I suppose.

The grips are the same, as are the chairs they are just way shinier!! :) I will get a pic of them when I manage to remember my camera!

Poor guys. I really like those towers but it was kind of pointless for them to just sit there.

From all the work that is being done right now at Red Mtn, it seems like there might be a HSQ in the works for next year.

I doubt a HSQ would be in the plans for next year... We're getting a new base lodge and shop next year though.

So what you're saying is if you want to get a final opportunity to soak up the atmosphere (and a few beers) in Rafters Lounge, it had better be this season? That tears it! I'm coming this winter!

More than likely, yes.. The current lodge is going to remain for a couple years, but I don't know what capacity it's going to fill. Brown bag lunches, lockers in the basement... who knows!!

You should make it a bar like in the movie Old Cold. That would give the mountain some personality. :)

A new shop, eh? I'll bet you guys are looking forward to that...
For some reason old lodges always end up as the brown bag room. I don't know why.
