This newsflash is in norwegian unfortunately.

A double fixed chair from the 60's near Kiruna. One chair slipped back and crashed into the chair behind, killing a 17 year old girl and injured a 16 year old boy in that chair. Two men (22 years old) was sitting in the slipping chair. More details to follow as the investigation has only just started.

Right after we were just talking about the good lift safety record...Any idea who built it?

It looks like mueller towers with doppelmyr chairs, or maybe just an early Dopp?

Pure Mueller, interesting that it slipped with double grips.

Slipping with double grips? That sounds like it points toward bad upkeep to me.

After 45 years, they should be taking extra good care of it. We'll have to see what the investigation turns up

Could one of those grips hold the chair by itself?

They move two chairs 2m each day on that lift. There's a total of 60 chairs. Maybe it's the human factor, or maybe just design failure/wear.

A member of the crew said the lift have never been in so good condition as this year, after service in may. The norwegian company "Veritas" checked the lift this year too. Everything seemed to be perfect.

The men in the slipping chair had a camcorder with them. It's taken by the police and it's still unknown/unofficial if they filmed during the accident...
