I'd be willing to come out and do Riblet annual service for a small fee or free skiing, though...

Hey, if I had the place that would be no problem. We would just have to get the stuff you need, maybe you could teach us some stuff. Plus I dont think one more person would kill the place. :)

After looking on ebay, they relisted the place 2 days before it sold, so I'm not expecting it to sell soon. Now if it was a million flat, there could be a chance, but probably not :crying:

Well the first one didn't sell, so the next one ends in 5 days.

Anyone know about a "Mt. Ralston" near Lake Tahoe?

Looks like it would have been some pretty good skiing.

No clue.

What looks really neat is that old Shasta Ski Bowl. Too bad it died.

It was way to exposed to survive. You can still take a snowmobile to it, but otherwise its tricky to get to.

Ok, today on my way up to Kirkwood we stopped at Iron Mountain. It is in quite a wreck, but whoever gets it will be able to get a lot of money out of the place. We walked up and the caretaker greated us, and gave us a mini tour and some information. So the property is decent sized and comes with 2 SLI double chairlifts, one beyond repair. It also has some cabins and the conference center and the main lodge. The old inn is not part of the deal up for sale, but if you had some money you could probably get the that as well. The other lift at the lodge you can see is a Riblet triple. It looks to be in very good condition, but it will be removed with the other two chairs off the private land as the permits have expired and cannot be renewed. The caretaker said that the triple had the best terrain on the mountain when it was open.

After a little look around, he showed us inside the lodge which was also torn up a bit, but it could be repaired. Inside the "office" he showed us a model and a trail map. The model was really cool because it showed everything, so lifts runs and buildings. I have pictures and will try to post them soon. So the last thing is probably the abundance of lift parts sitting in the parking lot. I didn't go and examine it all, but it looked like YAN, Riblet and SLI chairs with a bunch of other junk mixed in. Also in the other parking lot was 2 Riblet overhead drives, but I'm not sure where the return bullwheels, towers and chairs were.

So as far as the sale goes, we were told an offer of 1.25 million was put in last week. The bidders want to clean it up and have a co-op sort of thing with several nice cabins put in. He said that only chair 1 needs to be fixed up, so if the deal goes through, we may be seeing some cool stuff. He told us several snowboard compaines were interested, but none came through with offers.

So I got some pictures but some are blurry because of the light and camera spaz. I'll post them on monday or so. And one last little fact is that Iron was the first resort in california to allow snowboarding, so workers at Kirkwood would take time off and come ride the slopes at Iron.

Damn, I wish I could have taken the tour too, but I had to attend a wedding in Tahoe City. Anyway, I had a fun day up at Homewood. :D

$1.25 million isn't a bad investment for a ski area. I doubt, even if you threw in parts and labour for the lifts and structures, that you could buy an operating area for that cheap. Too bad...

They guy said itll take at least what you spend (so 1.25 to buy the place then another 1.25 to get it up to speed). Looks like a fun place with a decent vertical.

Ok, I'm gonna post some pictures i took. I'm upset with the quality and amount i took. Hopefully Cameron and I can check it out next summer and maybe go hike the place before the chairs are ripped out. Only time will tell.

Ok, first is Chiar 1, an SLI double that looks to be in very good condition. It is decent length and vertical. Its about 2,500 feet long with probably just under 1000 vertical.

Next comes chair 5 (Sundance Triple) which is a nice looking Riblet slated to be taken out next summer <_<

Anyways it all looked to be in good condition. The chairs were all on and the terminal just needs some new wood to make it look shiny. Its a real shame that it must be taken out (no way to re-acquire the permit) as the guy said is gave access to the best terrain on the mountain. Maybe the guy who buys it can make a quick land swap with the national forest, just for the liftline.

Ok, I know I should have taken more pictures. Strange things happen when you walk around in 40 degree weather with a t-shirt and shorts. So here is chair 2, an identical SLI double minus chairs. The guy said it is beyond repair, and it very well may be, and it doesn't really matter because chair 1 gets you the same stuff.

Compare the length of chair 1 on the model to the view of chair 1 from the top (if you look closely to the right of the second tower you will see some dirt, that is the bottom of 1). This place was pretty big. The run from 3 to the bottom of 4 was long.

So when is your timeline for going up there next year? Possibly a vacation in the Tahoe area maybe in store.

Not sure yet. The caretaker said the potential new owner wants to keep him there, and he was pretty friendly, so he would probably allow us to look around some more.
