Old mine shaft I bet you. Go to PCMR and you'll see alot of those as you ski.

The cables lower and raise basiclly an elevator that transports people ore etc down to the mine and back up.

Those things last forever they were built so well i doubt it's been restored and I'm positive they don't use it anymore they wouldn't let you ski near it if it was still used due to setbacks etc.

It's called a headframe, and yes it's an elevator but it's also how they got the ore out of the ground. There are a gazillion of them around Leadville in various states of disrepair. It's cool that it was left in place to show skiers the heritage of the area.

It's got a fence around it and a Historic Marker, which are all over DV and PCMR now. Pretty cool up close. They don't use it anymore, and I don't think it was restored either

Just found skilifts.org Great site and great Forums.
It is a headframe for a mine. I've been told that it still serves as an emergency exit for the miles and miles of tunnels still under PC. Something still goes on down there, of the three transformers next to the headframe two of them never get snow to collect which to me says they are warm and still working, the third identical transformer gets a nice big pile of snow on it.
on a side note they had to move little cheif a little when they installed it because of all the mine shafts in the area.

Hey Mike, it's good to see another DV employee on the forum. We used to have two a long time ago and now it's just James Marrot who is one of Deer Valley's lift mechanics. The other DV member that we haven't seen in a long time was TR, or Todd R, who is now a truck driver.

Anyway, welcome to the club. :)
