Here is the PR from Steamboat about their new chair:
BURGESS CREEK CHAIRS TO BENEFIT SKI CORP. ENVIRONMENTAL FUND
Resort Expects To Raise At Least $10,000 For New Ski Corp. Environmental Fund
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO—The Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation will use the chairs from the Burgess Creek double chairlift to generate funds that will benefit the resort’s recently announced Ski Corp. Environmental Fund housed through the Yampa Valley Community Foundation.
"The Burgess Creek lift served the public admirably for 35 years and has a lot of nostalgic value built up throughout the community,” said Doug Allen, senior director of mountain operations for the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. "Now, to turn around and do something for the environment after the lift is completely gone is a fitting legacy especially with all the emotions the BC lift instilled with everyone that rode it.”
Through the partnership with the Yampa Valley Community Foundation, the resort will make available a total of 100 chairs from the BC lift. Each chair will be offered to the public for a minimum donation of $100 to the Ski Corp. Environmental Fund via the Yampa Valley Community Foundation. The donation is tax-exempt and each chair comes with a certificate of authenticity from the resort.
"Through this program, we’re looking to raise at least $10,000 to go along with the $65,000 that is currently in the Ski Corp. Environmental Fund,” said Lyn Halliday, environmental and guest service director for the resort. "The resort expects to have a significant impact for a wide range of individuals for years to come on projects that better the environment of Routt County.”
Individuals wishing to obtain a chair must contact the Steamboat Ski Area Switchboard, 970-879-6111, between 9am-4pm, Monday through Friday. Chairs are limited to one per person on a first-come basis with their condition as is. Individuals will not be able to request a specific chair (for example Chair #87), but will be assigned the next chair off the stack.
The Ski Corp. Environmental Fund allows not-for-profit organizations to request grants, in the range of $500 to $2,500, which will contribute to new projects, programs or facilities to enhance the environment in Routt County. This fund is intended to be an endowed fund with no more than 5% of the fund balance used for grants in any given year.
The Burgess Creek double chairlift was removed to make way for the new $1.3 million Leitner-Poma of America, fixed-grip triple chairlift. As a part of the resort’s long-standing commitment to the environment, the Ski Corp. will utilize alternative energy, purchasing wind-generated electricity, to power the new Burgess Creek lift. This will be the first new lift since the Pony Express Quad was installed for the 1998/99 season and the first ever Leitner-Poma lift at the resort.
The Ski Corp. Environmental Fund, a donor advised fund, resides with the Yampa Valley Community Foundation. The Foundation manages over 100 funds including scholarships, legacy and agency endowments and has awarded $2 million in grants and built an endowment for future gifts of almost $10 million.

This appears to be the new trend. When resorts used to tear lifts out, they would either scrap the carriers or save them for spares. A few ended up on people's front porches or as swings, but that was about it.
