Wow, that really was just like a funitel. I imagined that it was just a tram, one car up the other down, but boy was I wrong. Quite the system with the haul rope coming down as the car goes up underneath it. Ryan, do you know how fast it went when it was running full speed? Also, what year was it built. These are great pictures, thank you very much for sharing them with us.

That's a Neat Lift. Sadly though like alot of other Yan lifts They were ahead of they're time and often the technology was faulty. What exactly was the downfall of this lift? because provided a few more years of fine tuning maybe we might be riding more QMC's these days.

I think the trouble was the grips and just getting the cables timed so that they were going the same exact speed. The line is very steep, so if these were the type 7 grips, it may have had a bit of slipage, but it did have 4 a cabin. June (Mammoth) decided that it was too costly to bring the lift up to speed, so it was removed. They now have plans for a 15 person gondola becasue all they have is a double accessing the slopes, and with the development they have planned, that is clearly not enough. If the QMC was built in the late 80s, wouldnt that make it the first funitel?

It may have very well been the first Funitel if it was installed prior to the 1987/88 instalation by doppelmayr at Solden. Though that lift does use the bicable funitel design i am not sure if it counts as the sheves pass inbetween the cables instead of out side the cables.

Great pics Ryan!!! I've never seen anything like that. Edmontoguy - Definition of a Funitel: A funitel is a type of aerial lift consisting of one or two loops of cable strung between two terminals over intermediate towers. The cables are arranged so as to maximize stability of the passenger cabins.
It doesn't matter how the line equipment is arranged. :) Unless there is FOUR rope loops... then would it be a fournitel? hehehe

Thanks for the clarification!
How long was the QMC? From the pictures it looks to be quite short almost something like the Happy Valley Gondola @ Bigwhite.

Well the current J1 chair takes about 10 minutes, but it runs extremelly slow, so maybe like 5 minutes, but thats just an estimate.

Very nice pics. It is quite a lift, the lower terminal seems to have a service walkway similar to the Summit Express at Pico, a 1988 YAN, modified by poma.
