I once read about a gondola at keystone that had some sort of underground switching station. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

yes, i know about it. there was an article in SAM during the mid-1990's about it.
keystone installed the current River Run Gondola (or once known as the Skyway Gondola) in 1986. It was built by Von Roll. The original gondola on that line was built by Yan. If you ever ski there, look in the Summit House cafeteria, there are pictures of that lift on the wall as you walk into the building.
Anyway, Doppelmayr built the Out Post gondola in 1991 and during construction a storage facility was built to house the gondolas for both gondolas. I don't have the exact square footage for the facility but it is pretty large. There is also a maintenance facility there too for gondola repair.
The lowering ramps for both gondolas are also visible if you know where to look.

Notice the slanted roofline with snow on it

Yup- when the facility was built they dug a big hole, poured the concrete walls and roff, and filled the hole back in. I don't know how the tunnel was built , but I'm guessing it was the same way.

Well today I went to Keystone and took some lift pictures but that's not all. I actually met a lift mech named Eric and he was a really nice guy and gave mea tour of the underground cabin parking facility. I will try to post some picturse in the future, but this system is pretty sweet.
