The Silver Queen gondola has such a greater vertical than the Flight of teh Canyons. The Silver Queen is like a 16 minute ride and is straight up the whole ride. If you check the vertical drop of Aspen Mountain, that's the vertical for the gondola.

You know you live in ski country when... you hear news of lift construction, etc. on the radio. Apparently SkiCo is going to replace Silver Queen's cabins during the summer of '05. No word on what they'll look like, but they will still be six-passenger capacity by all accounts.

Nope- must be something about that vintage of Poma because we were told to start replacing critical parts on the Flyer to keep it going for another 10-15 years. Maybe it's because in '86 the detachable were still French-built.

Our paper ussually does large articles about new installations of lifts or even snow making equipment. And your right you know your in ski country when you turn on the TV to wactch the local news and the top story is about a new lift at Alta.

Yup, the Summit Daily does the same (there was even a feature on my coworkers a few years back, with the Bee's mechanic on the front cover). Seattle, now- I wonder if the P-I and the Times would even know what a chairlift is, given that their miniscule fall previews are usually stocked with wrong info (it took them a year to figure out that we had upgraded chair 2 to a quad...)
