Just noticed PCMR seems to be taking down the First Time (FG-Triple, CTEC) lift. The lower terminal is gone, and the cable has been removed. Unless I'm missing something, that isn't done unless the lift is being rebuilt or a replacement is in the works. Since First Time is only 7 or so years old, I would suspect the latter. That lift really gets crowded on the weekends, so an upgrade would make sence. Funny though, I hadn't heard anything about this one.

Notice also in the picture is a surveyor's tool. It is off center from the current lift line. Does that mean that this is the new line? Inquiring minds want to know.

If they really are replacing that lift, then I know the perfect place for it. Pinecone Ridge is currently hike-to terrain to the right of Jupiter Bowl, extending all the way down to King Con. The First Time chair is about 1700' long and so is the lift I have drawn in to the image below (Yellow Line). I would kind of hate to have more skiers up there since I hike it often, but PCMR would greatly expand their steep stuff if they did this, creating a great expert experience, similar to Crested Butte's Outer Limits.

It's hard to tell what's going on there unless we know for sure PCMR is replacing the lift. It's true the rope is spooled up, and the lower terminal is almost gone (I see the rear mast is still there, though), so it does look like the lift is going down. However, if that were the case, the towers would probably be gone too- it's easier to remove them over the snow, and it's easier on the ground because otherwise you'd be tearing it up with a bulldozer or crane.
The surveying equipment is off centre both because the towers are still up and for triangulation purposes. Many times the surveyor will shoot directly up (or down) the line, and then go back and shoot each tower from a slighly different location to ensure proper placement. Off-the-wall guess- the lift is out of alignment and is being rebuilt?

This is kinda strange. Maybe they're upgrading it from a triple to a quad? The Pinecone Ridge lift would be awesome. If they upgrade it to a quad, maybe they would remove the nearby Three Kings double (SLI) too

Did some further nosing around today. No sign of the carriers anywhere. PCMR usually stores them at the base of a lift when performing maintenance. I didn't see them in the bone yard either. Strange. I aslo don't see signs of any new lift parts in the parking lot either. This also happened just over last week, as I ride by there every weekend to go Mt. Biking. I guess time will tell what they are up to. Eaqle chair also has some carriers removed, but it looks like the normal moving of grips down the rope. Three Kings shows no sign of work whatsover.

The strange case of the disappearing lift... No carriers anywhere- I wonder if they are indeed moving the lift and the carriers have already gone to their new location?

Oh, one more thing. If you look closely, there is a black barrier around the lower and upper terminals. Summit county requires a 'limits of disturbance' barrier on any construction project, so the upper terminal apparenly will get some work too. Since the towers do not have these barriers, I am starting to think that this may be an upgrade that uses the existing towers.

PCMR's boneyard is on Bonanza Ave. across from Old Miner's Car Wash. That is where they store stuff for staging onto/off of the mountain. For instance, the tracks for the new alpine slide are all stored there right now.

So is the building next to Bonanza where they keep the snowcats and stuff like that?

Well it seems like it would be possible that this lift is being upgraded to a hs lift. Since it is a triple, and parts are missing, maybe they gave them to DoppCTEC to make them ready to be a hs lift, maybe a high speed triple. It would make sense, but really i have no idea and am just throwing ideas out there.

This is a beginner lift, not all that long, I don't think they would really need it. You never know, but there are other places on the mountain that a HS would be better for

floridaskier,

The boneyard is down in town, on Bonanza Avenue, behind Albertsons. The yard you are thinking of is the cat and truck shed up on the mountain. Parts generally are not stored up on the mountain, though.

Also, that lift is VERY crowded on the the weekends and holidays, so an upgrade to higher capacity (HSQ or FGQ) would be a welcome addition, even though I won't use it much B)

Yes, but the beginners would be very happy with the addition. Other resorts have done it, and it seems like a solution that works pretty well.

They truely couldn't get away withnot replacing that lift it would be to crowded. Sometimes if it is really busy there is a huge line on both three kings and First time

Hey guys, sorry for the late reply to this thread since I never had time to check it out the last time I was on, but yes, it is going to be a high speed quad. I have the stats in my car for this lift, so I will try to post them tomorrow or something.

It's a UNI-GS. That's the only terminal design Doppelmayr CTEC is now making for its high-speed lifts. :(
