I can open that one, but it's too small to read. Maybe try posting it as a link like that in its normal size

i always wondered what those lone towers were for, as it seemed to be like some sort of ghost lift, for like dead coal miners of yore

You want ghost lifts, go to Vail. I've never seen chair 1 run (granted, I've only been here a little over two years); there's also the bottom half of chair 9 which no longer has a lift in the lift line (it got shortened). These are also old Riblets.

Keystone also used to have a lot of ghost lifts, that never or rarely ran, such as Packsaddle I, Saints John, Argentine. Of course they have removed two of those, I lucked out one day when all three were open, I rode em all.

Argentine is still there but looks like it hasn't been used for a long time. The top station of the Sts. John lift is still there

I wonder if Argentine will be the next to go- that base area is rarely open as it is; with Peruvian being a detachable now Argentine never gets used anyway.
We were able to take three towers and some chairs from Pack 1 last season when it was torn down; we will (at some indeterminate time) be building a training section similar to D-chair at Breck.

My bet would be that argentine will be going soon. It used to be an important base lift. From that base you could take the peru chair or the argentine chair. From the top of argentine you could get the Saints John, or Erikkson lifts to the top.

...none of which (save Peruvian) are even there anymore. I wonder why Ericsson (sp?) got removed? it seems that the terrain on the side lends itself better to a lift where Ericsson was than to top-to-bottom skiing like the Summit.

It has to be a lot quicker to take the Summit lift...and it's cheaper (less operators, lower maintainance

You're probably right; I've only been there in the summer and have talked to their mechanics some. When did Ericsson get removed?

Just a guess but for many years before the summit express was installed I never saw the ericsson run. My guess is that at that point they alreay had enough uphill capacity and didnt want to over crowd the runs any more than they were.

Grant wanted to know where some of the old (removed) lifts at Breck were located, so I though we could discuss others as well since I'm sure everyone has a question or two on the subject. I'll start with what I know about Breck, and maybe someone else has more accurate info.

Peak 9- A-chair used to run clear down to town, and then was shortened to make way for the original Quicksilver (which, as we all know, is at Owl's Head now). B-chair basically paralled Beaver Run; you can still see two or three towers which were kept for a patrol evacuation practise setup. D-chair ran roughly where Merc is now, but in a slightly different alignment.
On Peak 8, 1-chair ran near the Rocky's current alignment. 2-chair began just below the midpoint of the current Colorado's line, and then crossed it, running up towards the top of 4-chair. That lift ran on the upper portion of the SuperConnect. I think that the T-bar is officially designated 3-lift, but I could be wrong.

Breckenridge's ribblet tripple "A" is actualy "A-1" the actual "A" lift was replaced by the original Quicksilver dopp. The line of A was the same as the old QS but ended close to the base of the current A chair.

On their older maps, it looks like the original Quicksilver base was pretty far from the actual base area. Is this just on the map, or was it really that far away?

I don't think it was that far away because when I was there over the summer, I can recall where the terminal was located. I guess it will take about a 4 minute walk in ski boots to get to the lift, but then again, that isn't the main base aera.

The base of the first QS was close to the same place as the new HSS but there was a large hill between the maggie resturant and the bottom station which you had to walk up. It wasnt too bad of a walk but it wasn't fun first thing in the morning.

On the second one, it looks like there's a poma lift to get up there, but on the first, it looks like its somewhere else. (the Village Pony Lift) Could you have taken that up the hill, or does it go somewhere else?
