As you can see, Breckenridge Ski Resort has done away with the digital map they'd used from 2007 to 2015, and gone to a new map painted by James Niehues (with his signature being next to the Zendo Chair). Definitely a lot nicer. I mean, they now have it at an angle where they don't need an insert to show the Lift E trails. You can also see that the new restaurant at the top of the Independence SuperChair is known as Pioneer Crossing, And they no longer list the ride times for the lifts in the lift stats area either (which is probably a good thing since the listed ride times weren't exactly accurate). Among other things.

One can view the new "Green Peak" expansions at Waterville Valley on the interactive map. Lift isn't finished yet, appears to be a matter of haul rope and chairs.

The trails are just numbers at the moment because there is an open contest to name the new trails right now.

Waterville's doing something similar to what Breck did with Peak 6, I guess? I mean, the Peak 6 runs were named through a Facebook naming contest.

It was embarrassing how long it took Breckenridge to update that horrifying excuse they called a map. I'm so happy they went with Niehues. Nothing compares in my opinion.

I honestly thought Niehues had retired a few years ago.

I'll be honest, Peak 6 does look better on the new map than it did on the old one.

He's semi retired now. He only does a few maps a year. His FB page is wonderful, shows how he makes each map, definitely encourage anyone to check that out.

Funny, just looked at his facebook page and first thing that caught my eye, they're updating that Gunstock map for 2017. The appearance of it... bugged me. Also not to mention that they still show the gunshy double as being there but not.

Completely agree, Niehues maps are generally the best looking ones...really like the new Breck map, although as a graphic designer and former Breck employee there are a few things I'd change to the computer generated items...

The stratton map, with no lifts on it looks amazing. The way they put the lifts on though...The red dotted lines and just the way they look bugs me pretty badly. It also doesn't tell you what lifts are HS, gondola etc. Just slightly a mess. I liked the old one (99') a lot more.

I'm currently on the first day of my annual Christmas timeshare at Grand Lodge on Peak 7. Seems that the new James Niehues painting only is on the folding trail map. All of the map boards on the mountain, plus the map displays on the chairlifts (that is, all the superchairs except the Falcon SuperChair, Kensho SuperChair and Imperial Express SuperChair), still use the digital painting. Though I guess VR will make an effort to overhaul both for next season.

Yea I would imagine it's something they'll do in due time. I'm sure it takes time and money to update all those, especially the chairlift displays.

I think that might be a thing for next season, once the Falcon SuperChair upgrade goes through.

Mt. Bachelor has a new trail map displaying its new terrain for the 16-17 season. Apparently, a new trail map design is in the works focused less on CGI.

Maybe Mt. Bachelor will learn from Breckenridge and finally ditch that god awful satellite rendered excuse they call a map. I honestly don't see how anyone could think that was a good idea.

Copper Mountain uses that same type of image, even the same legends for its map, given they're both owned by the same parent company.
