Question for AussieRob - Given the closure of the acquisition, and Vail Resorts' past history of investment, which lifts would you say need to be added/replaced at Whistler/Blackcomb? I was thinking Wizard/Solar Coaster, Catskinner, and Franz's. Also the Creekside Gondola seems a bit overwhelmed on big weekends. Thoughts?

This week at Whistler - Load testing Glacier Express in the snow. As for Alexboesen's query - For me it 's the uploads, so Wizard/Solar and Creekside. Would love to see Excalibur with a capacity upgrade, but think there are other priorities. The new Bagel and Khyber chairs would be a huge addition, but expensive with the run cutting/service/operating costs. Couple of potentially cheaper infill projects would be to upgrade GE and Symphony to 2800pph from the current 2500.

RRG is at ~23,000 hours. Last year during the load test, there was an issue with the pinion bearings that was discovered by MJs watchful eye. The pinion bearings were replaced last fall. The gearbox guy from Europe recommended going thought the gearbox. Doppelmayr also recommends inspecting/rebuilding the gearbox every 24,000 hours.

That's a Lohmann, but which lift? Looks like a vault drive.

Last week we stared at 203 carriers. This week we are in the process of repairing 190 of them. Nothing scary, just worn parts.

23,000 hours already.. I remember driving up there looking at the old Von Roll cabins in the parking lot and the Doppie team hard at work installing the current one.

We installed the new rope on Motherlode, including splicing and re-tensioning... need to raise the counterweight a bit more but that's not terribly hard. Re-wired the safety system and the webcam at the top shack of the Red chair. Things are slowly starting to come together!

You certainly have been busy this year, Allan. Are there any of your lifts that didn't need any major work this year?

Yeah, you never got to see that machine turn. Your ol' gal OPG is up to 65,000 hours.

Footrests, seat pads, other random items like that. Haven't done grips yet so we'll see about springs.

For a lift put in in 1991 that's not too bad for OPG. How's she holding up?

OPG is doing great - in the last four years the haul rope was replaced, drive bullwheel bearings replaced, motor was overhauled, and the PLC control system was replaced. All the grip bodies have also been replaced.

Skytrac return tension terminal, Doppelmayr sheave assemblies, Riblet updated chairs fitted to a Yan grip. The only thing left from Yan is the grip.

Those grips have been all replaced a couple of years ago.

What are those two blue things that look like anchors?

Are they for tying off the rope if needed? (ie: they really ARE anchors)
