probably like 6 inches at most. They probably have that foam stuff they have on lifts that load indoors, so if a spot is thin, it wont scratch your board, just slow you down. Plus you wouldnt really need much more, maybe if you have jumps or a pipe, but you could still shape those with dirt and you wouldnt need that much more. Would be interesting to know for sure.

What does the outside of these places look like? Is it built into the side of a hill where available?

I would think that it would make the most sense to build it on a hill, but then again if it were in the middle of a city it would be pretty flat.

Does make sense to have it on a hill, but if they had one in Tokyo they can't have had much of a hill.

Is there a lift in there, or maybe a carpet or something? I couldn't see anything

It looked like an indoor parking lot, it reminded me of the indoor parking in Philidelphia airport, only with the addition of snow. If it is too small to ski on it would make one heck of a sledding hill.:---:

They have a rope tow and what appears to be a magic carpet type of lift.

my old doppelmayr big book-o-chairlifts has a pic of an indoor ski barn served ba a fixed grip 6 pack.

That is the one in the netherlands! They have several lifts and a fixed grip 6Pack! They actually built the lift, bevor builing the house around it! I Try to organize some pictures! Maybe I will go there this summer!

Anyone ever been in one of those?

There are actually two indoor ski facilities in Germany! One has just an magic carpet and was bankrupt several times! I seems like some skiresort from Austria will buy it and built a usual ski lift! It is located in the ruhr-district: www.alpincenter.com

The other one is just ~70kilometres away and has a fixed grip 4 seater chairlift and two usual lifts(I don't know how you call them!) It is not a T-bar, but same construction for just one person! There are several pictures on : www.allrounder.de ! All the pictures postet above are from this indoor ski facility! All 3 lifts are built by doppelmayr!

The alpincenter is on a hill, but the other one is not! Vheck www.allrounder.de for pictures! The allrounderb one is much, much better than the other one!

The one you are talking about in Great_Britain are much smaller than the ones in Germany!
Allrounder is 300 metres long and 60 metres wide, alpincenter 600 metres long (longest in the world) and just 30 metres wide! But allrounder is much better, because they have a chairlift and not a very (!) slow carpet!

I heard they dont actully have snowmaking systems they just somehow build a base and keep grooming it and just have a company come and snownmke for a day or two just to keep base up. Not 100% sure. ;)

Allrounder have their own snowmaking system under the roof ! Quite good and very good snow! Alpincenter make some kind of ice and put it on the slope!
