I was just wondering about how many abandoned lifts are in the US and what some are called.

The double chairlift, Snow Valley Vermont. The entire area was abandoned in 1982, as with the chairlift without removal. The fact that I can't get over there to take pictures, considering I live less than 30 minutes away is pathetic. Lol.
Pictures and stats:

Trail map (1981-82 season, the double is the lift stretching from the top to the furthest bottom right on the map) :

Another good one that comes to mind is Tenney Mountain:

And finally, green chair at Magic. Not really ever installed, but at this point I think it won't ever open:

Not to mention, hundreds of remains of lifts are throughout New England and the country. Two that come to mind are Timberside at Magic and Kidderbrook at Stratton:

There is actually a lift with an abandoned top terminal that is still in operation, and that is White Peaks express at Waterville valley. This lift was truncated in the early 90s because of wind problems:

the third chairlift built in the US is still sitting there abandoned ...

(well, not really ... it's owned, and in private hands, but is sitting there all by itself nonetheless, 80+ years later)

Didn't know that. Hopefully they can reopen, and possibly finally do that Summit expansion!

This website is really good for reading about lost ski areas and likely will list some abandoned lifts

That's the website I found the only picture on the internet of the old sunbowl at stratton, and it has snow in it, in JULY! Pretty cool website.

The snow is because of the US open halfpipe:

Actually it is the second and not the third single chair (it was installed the same year as the one on Proctor Mountain and before the one on Dollar - and it is not the j-bar from Proctor). Unfortunately there are so many incorrect articles out there. Sun Valley owns the property and is still taking care of the lift.

The abandoned ski area Forbidden Plateau on Vancouver Island in BC still has (or at least did as recently as 2012) an old Mueller double still standing with its chairs and counterweight still attached. Kind of scary since considering how long it's been sitting there rusting away, if the (likely rusted through) counterweight ropes gave way the shock wave through the line would probably bring the whole structure down in a quick and violent manner.

The photos in this link are dated 2005, more recent photos show the condition of the lift has continued to deteriorate gradually.

Hey, look at magic mountain after this season. Abandoned Pohlig and Heron-poma chairlifts! Lol.
But in all seriousness, I think there is a 50 50 chance magic spins red chair next season, and 1 99 chance they spin black. Black basically is already on this list (Hasn't passed inspection in 5 years, magic is too far into debt to fix it) and red isn't very far behind it (They have no money. If red breaks, magic breaks).

There was an old abandoned lift at Homewood made by Teigel that was the E lift. I have passed by and it does not look to have much of it remaining. http://www.skilifts....uble/double.htm Attached File  HomewoodTrailMap.jpg (904.83K)

They have a Teigel platter that is still standing and one of the few Partek chairs out west.
