Too bad. It's not that I have this big "us versus them" mentality, but it was definitely a source of pride to have at least one independent manufacturer from the U.S. And I would imagine even more so for the Skytrac employees.

This is a very good thing for Poma. Previously, they struggled getting business in Utah and it all went to Doppelmayr. If they can now operate out of Skytrac's office, they can have a base in SLC and sell some lifts there. Maybe there are mountains that bought Skytrac fixed grips and decided to get a detachable, maybe they'd be inclined to use Poma instead of Doppelmayr.

Will they still make SkyTrac lifts?

Jules, if you read the liftblog posts (like you say you do) you would know the answer. But, yes, they are still making Skytrac's

General rule is to assume Peter and the other reliable sources around here are always right, unless you have conflicting info.

Will L-P get the same tower-heads? That could get weird if brand new Dopple lifts had the exact same tower-heads as brand new L-P lifts.

Certainly makes it more complicated when old CTEC lifts are up for replacement. Wonder how this will affect new Skytrac spare parts customers who are old CTEC customers. Example: Deer Valley has a bunch of Skytrac brittle bars these days, and they had Skytrac replace a depression tower on Viking last summer. But they're one of Doppelmayr CTEC's best customers - installed 18 straight CTEC and Doppelmayr lifts. Will Doppelmayr fight more to keep spare part market share, to keep L-P from getting in with customers like that?

Will the skytrac carrier continue to be used? I saw Peter's blog post, although it never mentions carriers. I personally hope those things never see the light of day again... :)

Have you ever ridden in one?

Having installed two lifts with them and ridden those lifts often the chairs work well and they are comfortable.

Honestly it reminds me of the garaventa style carrier but with the... uh... side bit moved to the center for lack of better phrasing.

And the garaventa style chairs are pretty comfortable

Not sure what you're asking, Jules.

From what I've read and heard at RMLA, Skytrac will continue to operate as an independent company with the added marketing reach of the Seeber group. I suspect that eventually its more successful ideas will be incorporated into the LPOA model and it will cease to exist, similar to what happened when the Seeber group pulled Leitner from the North American market. One man's opinion, of course.

I am not too sure what this means so I tried rearranging it

Are these their lifts?
The manufacturer name is listed next to the thumbnail, the upper one a dopp/garaventa-ctec and the lower a skytrac.

Skytrac's issue the last few years was that they had the most economical fixed grip product (if you where paying cash they could compete with anyone on price) ,unfortunately, Skytrac didn't have a detachable product for combination bids and lacked the financial resources to offer financing through extended payment plans. Sounds like that has changed now with the purchase by Leitner.
