Hello,

I just recently purchased an original Riblet Double chair from Aspen Ski Resort and would like to find its origins before I restore it to its original condition. Through the process of elimination and the help of skilift.org, This chair may be from the original F.I.S or Little Nell lift. If anyone could provide confirmation, or suggest where else to look, it would be greatly appreciated.

It is my understanding that the bracket, shown in the bottom left corner of the attached PIC, was for a shock absorber. The other end of which was attached to the cable. This was to reduce to-and-fro swinging of the chair, particularly after loading. Not all Riblets lifts had this feature. This information may narrow the field.

Might have also come from Aspen Highlands. They had quite a few old Riblets there.

Based on what I can remember Highlands didn't have any center pole Riblets and it was the ASC that painted their lifts that blue color in the early 80s.

Lifts 3 (Ajax Express), 4 (Little Nell), 6 (FIS) and 8 (Ruthies) I believe were all center pole Riblet doubles. I may be wrong about Lift #3. It's unlikely it came from FIS or Ruthies since the chair would've been painted a different color before its removal.

I would bet Lift #4.

Little Nell was the first Riblet built by ASC circa 1957. The chair hanger is of the design sometimes referred to as the short clip. These were no longer used after about 1965 when lifts were required to have cable catchers. Both the # 6 #7(the old #2) and the #8 were built before they went to the long clips. I don't remember anything about the paint.
