Hyak,

That looks cool. I will 'winterize' the image when I get a chance. I will out all next week, so it may not happen until July.

Hyak,

sorry this took so long, but I had other projects (work) to complete. Here is a winterized (plus lifts & runs) version. I don't like the pixelation seen in the map. For some reason this one just doesn't want to give me a higher resolution.

I am glad to see this get up and running again. I have been toying with the idea of downloading the programs and trying to do White Pass and Mount Baker.

Anyone else have any luck using this programs?

That's really cool! Thanks!!!

DID YOU KNOW, the original idea for Easy Gold was to have it dump out on Blowdown. New Cut was never intended to be a ski run, but it was cleared for the lift (which is why it was never given a real name). Because of limited funds they decided to make it shorter which is why the run New Cut ends right at the top of Easy Gold with nowhere to go.... They were going to make the lift with "2" unload stations (I guess enspired by the Dino) to unload in the current spot then continue up to Blowdown with an upper unload area. Good thing they changed their mind, because unloading in the middle of a steep run like Blowdown was not the brightest idea.....

I am milking everything I can out of 3DEM, Photoshop & Illustrator. I managed to colorize and winterize the overlay (with photoshop) , then use 3DEM to generate the 3D image. I added lifts & runs with Illustrator. Here is a lower res image of a partially completed Big Sky:

Nice touch-ups Powdr. If you want to make other resorts and such, I can create an area on my website for topographical images like that. Let me or Cameron know if you want to.

Very nice. How is it that you get the run lines so nice and smooth like that. Ive tried pretty much everything, so is there something you need to download for photoshop, or do you just work very very carefully?

What would be cool is if you had a state by state area where people could post images/fantasy resorts etc.

Illustrator allows you to apply slpine smoothed lines. All you have to do is trace the run, and Illustrator smooths it for you.

We could set that up, it would however be part of the gallery since its the only area that people can upload without the web guys getting involved. As for state to state, having so many areas would be overwhelming, how about West, Midwest, East for the catagories to start with?

That would be good start. If some good art comes of it, you could place that into a separate section on the website, or tie it into the Chairlift Gallery images.

Sounds like a good start. If we get some really cool ones, maybe we can market them too.

Ok, I set up the Images Directory for the 3D images in the Gallery. I uploaded the few we had on the forum over in the gallery.

Check out the 3D image of Cannon I did in the Gallery section (under East Coast Resorts). I changed the way runs are depicted by using colored areas instead of lines. Let me know what you think.

PS: off to the Park City Jazz Festival right now. Should be fun!

Powdr, you do such a good job of making these 3D Image maps. I tried for about 5 hours to make the images appear like this and was unsuccessful. But if you ever get a chance, I think it would be cool to see a 3D model diagram of Stagecoach Ski Area in Colorado. It's Colorado's biggest lost ski area.

Bachelor,

I'm not sure I can do much with Stagecoach since the runs are already pretty overgrown and don't show up too well on the aerial images. I have 'cut' newer runs on ski areas that I've imaged up from older aerial photos, but I don't even know where to begin since I've never been to that area and don't know the layout. If some one could help by laying out the runs on a map, I could get started.

On another subject, I found Stagecoach by starting at Steamboat, then navigating South. I noticed that Steamboat (never been there) faces due West. That sure must produce some spring time slop when the sun gets on it (PCMR's slightly West facing slopes are a mess in the spring). Does anyone know how Steamboat holds up snow-wise with such a West facing orientation?

Does anyone know where you can get Canadian satelite/aerial photos from?

I know there is one for canada and the photos are in color for the most part, but Max probably know since david and him were posting pictures on the forum using it. It was like Globe something.

But you could try Google's new image service, Keyhole. It's keyhole.com and it might have a place for canadian users to find pictures for their country.

I few years ago, I spent a fair amount of effort using a 3D Nature terrain modeling software to put a sample interactive website togther. You could rotated around the image to view it at different angles. I wanted to sell my services to resorts, but got side tracked with other career projects. Here is a screen (not interactive) image. I could post it to a website if anyone wants to see it in full interactive mode.

What program was that photo done with?
All fo the 3-D images look great.
If you have some time on your hands, think you could make a Wildcat Mountain (NH) 3-D? Thanks
