Can you post the ones from Crystal Mountain?  I would be interested in seeing that.

Here is Crystal. I used a topo map overlay on this one. Same holds for the Killington image: I can change, angle, zoom, size etc.

Oh, one more thing: I have been experimenting with contrast on the DOQs to make the ski runs whiter, which makes them look more winter-like:

Yes Alpental would be a great one to see although the back side would be a little tricky I think but hey what do I know?

Iceberg,

Here is Alpental. Let me know what else you want out of this scene.

That's the inbounds part of Alpental. Can you triple the distance to the north so as to include the near & far backcountry?

(see here for a photo/map of the area I'm talking about
http://www.alpental.com/snow-h.htm )

The high-contrast does do a good job at bringing out the cleared runs.

Here is a 'winterized' version. If you like the summer image better, I will post that too.

The crystal map is nice- it's also quite old as it shows five chairlifts, the t-bar, and a few rope tows :)

John, look again, C-9 and C-8 are there, but no C-6 or its lost in the lines, also if thats the T-Bar where is C-7? Has to be circa 1984 or 1985. :)

I looked- what appears to be chairs 8 and 9 are grid lines from the map, and it's difficult to tell if old C-7 is on because the map ends too early. It's possible that the map was computerised from an old Mt Baker-Snoqualmie Nat'l Forest map- the one I have is so old that C-5 was brand new (1971) and even newer versions still show old C-2 and a full-length C-5.

General reply to all:

- The entire process takes as little as half an hour if you get the right data files.

- I have done Jackson Hole, Killington, Park City, The Canyons, Squaw Valley, Heavenly, Crystal Mountain, Parts of Mt. Hood and a few other test runs.

- I will make the Alpental/Snoqualmie areas in the next day or so.

- I will do requests, but it may take some time, as I have a real job too!

Can I politely ask for one of Stevens Pass?

Thanks in advance

I few years ago, I spent a fair amount of effort using a 3D Nature terrain modeling software to put a sample interactive website togther. You could rotated around the image to view it at different angles. I wanted to sell my services to resorts, but got side tracked with other career projects. Here is a screen (not interactive) image. I could post it to a website if anyone wants to see it in full interactive mode.

scrutch2001:

I tried to do Steven's Pass, but the image overlay does not sit correctly ontop of the 3D terrain. I have yet to figure out how to properly adjust (nudge) the image into the right spot, but will give it some more effort in the near future.

That turns out VERY cool.
Since you already have the tools and some practice,  would you be willing to do another resort up?

Interested in one of Hyak/Central/West  ( from 618167E 5254148N to 621489E 5252796N )

And one for Alpental (from 616016E 5256719N  to 619613E 5253854N )

Yes, Hyak for sure!!!! It is very cool.

Here is Hyak (at least I think it is - not sure which of the Snoqualmie resorts is which). Its a little dark, and I can change the angle if needed. Let me know.

Very cool, thanks. I can make out the Milwaukee ski area on the left and even see a little of Hidden Valley on the backside...

Now how do you go about "winterizing" the photo's?

Yep, that's Hyak all right. He increases the contrast drastically to "winterize" and make the trails stand out.
Here's a version with the trails marked...

Here I added lifts, lodge and Ski Jump locations on the Hyak hill for the old Milwaukee Ski Bowl.....all are aproximate. The arrows show the ski direction from the top of the mtn...... This was a 'quick' job I'll do better with more time. The 3D picture helps a lot..... The only indications of the old ski area today are the remains of the large ski jump, a collapsed rope tow building (engine still under debris) and remains of upper Ski Boggan lift building and 5 ski boggans.

FYI

Here is the same map but now with the 3 Hyak lifts (dead Dino, Keechelus and Little Gold). I didn't label, but Dino goes over to hidden valley, Keechelus dumps off on Milwaukee Ridge and Little Gold is the further right..... Trails are as indicated in TomK's pic...
