DENVER - Vail Resorts is reopening its expanded free lift ticket deal program for kids.
In the past, parents could sign up their 5th grader for the free School of Shred program, earning the child four free days at each of the Vail-owned ski resorts in Colorado. The offer included one free first-timer lesson and rentals.
The program is now expanding.
The new "Epic SchoolKids Colorado Pack" is being offered, for free, to kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. Each student gets four free days at each of the four Vail Colorado resorts -- Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone and Breckenridge.
That's a total of 16 free days of skiing each season.
The students will also be offered a free full-day beginner lesson and equipment rentals in January, outside of the holidays, as part of Learn to Ski & Ride Month.
"Fostering a love for skiing and snowboarding in kids is a top priority for Vail Resorts," said Kirsten Lynch, chief marketing officer of Vail Resorts. "As a Colorado-based company, it is incredibly important that we continue to find ways to connect kids and families in our local communities and around the state with the mountains and the many benefits of snow sports."

To sign up for the Epic SchoolKids Pack, students, along with a parent or guardian, need to register at a participating Front Range Colorado Ski & Golf, Colorado Ski & Sport or Boulder Ski Deals location. Students need a report card, school ID or birth certificate, along with a photo for their pass. The fall sign up period is August 17 through October 11, 2015.
Fifth grade students who participated in the program during the 2014-15 season will be allowed to stay in the program during 6th grade, but after that, the 6th grade program will no longer be offered, Vail Resorts spokesman Russ Pecoraro told 7NEWS.
Colorado Ski Country offers a special pass for 5th and 6th graders.
