I love Targhee and would love to go up there right now, unfortunately, it's not in the budget. They sure aren't having the bad year we are. (But then again, the locals at Targee probably don't even know what "Bad year" means.)

I hope this and last season were just a warm period and afterwards we can resume the days of ski resorts even as low as Ski Bowl Oregon being fully open by December 14th, and higher up resorts having lots of terrain open by November like Mt. Hood Meadows.... ;_;

Seriously this pains me.

well, when elections come up, be sure and vote for candidates that support climate change initiatives and take it for the serious problem that it is...

With that thin of a cover on a trail I'm very surprised that they even decided to open their doors that day.

Well, on the east coast of North America, many in the nieve media are saying that "Global Warming can't exist" because of the few bigger 'winter' storms they have experienced this winter.. I cant imagine the frustration that the west coast ki areas are enduring...I wish it was better, I need somewhere to va-ca in April...

Ouch, very bad season. Two of Cyprus and one of the Glacier Express at Whistler with puddles!

well I believe that is why the description or phrase is Climate Change now vs global warming... due to severe weather, not just warming... and the east would probably be able to relate to that very well as well as the west

GE's puddle occurred during a rain event so not surprising. It has happened before. We have pretty solid coverage, especially up high. Just need snow to bury the ice. Right now the mountain biking in the valley is great.

Rob,

Sorry if I seemed to suggest there was poor coverage at WB. When I was I was up there the joke was the marketing department were the only people who did not know it rained at the top of the mountain at least once every winter. The reality is being on the Pacific side of the Coast Mountains is that storms from Hawaii give rain and storms from the panhandle give epic dumps. Having said all that, I am surprised by the size and location of the puddle. Glacier express is what 60% up the mountain? At the bottom of Solar Coaster facing the valley or the Gondola mid-station, then I would not have been as surprised.

... and add Arctic Valley to the list. The road resembles a hockey rink more than a driving surface, and we lost some snow to the rain Monday and sun throughout the week. Add a rainstorm with no predicted freeze level in the forecast for this weekend and the best thing to do is shut down until things improve.

Was checking in on resorts near Vancouver:

Hemlock Valley (Up the valley from Vancouver so bit cooler but slightly lower elevation than three North Shore mountains)
- Never opened this season and have cancelled the season

Mt Seymour (North Shore)
- All snow washed away early Feb.
- No snow making so on standby, but little hope now

Grouse Mountain (North Shore)
- Have opened the bunny hill on man-made snow
- Virtually no other snow on mountain

Cyprus Bowl (North Shore)
- Site down but Facebook suggests snow making success and a few runs open this weekend after being closed for 3 weeks
- Rest of mountain seems bare
- Rain to return next week???

Manning Park (2.5 hours east of Vancouver / past Hemlock and much higher / first interior mountain)
- Have coverage and half of runs open
- Looks 'wet' more like north shore mountains should

What a season.....

Mt. Baker suspended operations today. They normally average 715" per season and have no snowmaking.

The world record snowfall holder can't operate in March. That's how bad this year is...

Gonna be rain tonight in Colorado below 9000ft is what they are saying.. I hope they meant 8000 otherwise.. the base at a few of those areas is really going to be mushy.

The conditions at Vail and Breckenridge have held up pretty well over the past week in spite of the warm temperatures. I mean, they're still pretty skiable for now.

With this warm weather, we're starting to go down hard. The attached pic is a south facing slope at about 1400 meters.
