Lake Louise's Summit Platter has (or at least did have last season) this interesting oddity:

Didn't think to ask the operator at the time whether 2 people were allowed to load on that particular carrier.

Also would be curious if anyone knows the story behind this.

According to a source that I have now lost, the Summit Platter was apparently a full T-bar in the past. Can anybody confirm this?

I found a trail map from 1981 that lists a "summit t-bar", whether the lift was replaced since then or retrofitted I'm not sure. Not entirely sure why they'd do this, only 2 possibilities I can think of are:

- Lift was once diesel powered and was converted to electric using a smaller horsepower motor.
- Lake Louise for some reason wants to discourage snowboarders from accessing the summit, the lift is near impossible to ride on a board except for the "best of the best" experts while it's relatively effortless on skis.

Either way it's a little odd that they left one t-bar on the line.

On a side note, didn't know the old Von Roll gondola was summer only even back then

The single T-bar on the summit platter at Lake Louise is so that ski patrol can haul a rescue sled to the top, through in 30 days skiing there I've never seen this done. The platter has a very steep hill on it. So the T-bar was replaced with a platter to reduce falloffs. The recently approved master plan calls for a HSQ on the backside of the summit to replace the platter, through I suspect it will be several years before we see it.

Was the platter a new lift or did they just replace all but one of the tees? Cooper converted their T-bar to a platter in the early 90s.

I know the telluride gondolas have newer CWA cabins with the full windows.

I was wondering about that! That makes sense. Here are pictures (They replaced the grips in the second picture in 2009, so we know that the new cabins were put on before 09')

To make more sense, I'm just going to make up that 2006 was when they got new cabins (I don't know, and neither does the internet)

Timeline of the gondola:
Original cabins with original grips : 1996
New cabins remaining with old grips : 2006
Grips all replaced : 2009

Hopefully I didn't confuse you more. Here are pictures of the old cabins with old grips and new cabins with new grips:

If it makes more sense, I just happened to find a picture of the old cabins after they replaced the grips and a picture of the new cabins between the new cabins being put on and the grips being replaced.

I know, I see how that could be very very confusing.
