Worryingly, unless we get consistently cold weather and 3 days of snow, it doesn't look like we'll make the revised date either as a full opening, folk will definitely be downloading on the gondola and a very limited opening around the hill.

Now there are recently new snow with some 10 inches. The weather is cold (valley average 45, up the mountain average 25) They make snow machines...take time. The ski resorts are not open yet.

When I was up there this morning we had an awesome temp inversion causing a pretty funky deal with the snowmaking. Was -10 at the base and then around -0 at paradise according to the trail crew. All the cannons down low were just launching their payload into a cloud of snow that filled the base area floating about 20ft above the ground. Found a pretty gnarly snapshot of it in the webcam archive. Never seen cannons do that before.
EDIT: From what I've heard round town, we'll be the first area in Canada to open this season

Yer tellin me. We went from dirtmobiling to full-on over-the-snow riding in one day. More on the way. Unfortunately, this is the *first* real storm we've had, so there's no base under all this fresh.

That's about 1,300 acres right there, which is much more than any of the individual Summit County ski areas has open (though I think upper Peak 9 will open later this week). In other words, almost the entirety of the Front Side is open (no word yet on the Sourdough Express lift).

Meanwhile, I need to scrape my car off. I had more pics but it's kinda dark out at 4:30 (I know it's 5:45 now but I took it at 4:30-ish)
In southern NH, when there is snow before December, you kinda need to double take...
