Taos Ski Lifts

I haven't skied Taos, but I wonder if there would be any merits towards installing a single high speed quad to replace Lifts 2 and 8 (West Basin and Reforma).

Donald it looks good on a map but in real life a single high speed lift replacement would require a mid offload station with a possible turn to work as well as the current set up.

Lift 2 has mostly advanced and expert terrain while lift 8 has mostly intermediate terrain. Neither lifts are very long. I thought the set-up was OK as-is. 8 would be the one to upgrade to high-speed but it did not look like enough people use it to warrant that expense. The proposed upgrades to 4 & 5 are a much higher priority. What is the plan for #1 when the new HSQ #5 goes in? I doubt anyone would ride it with a high-speed running parallel to it.

Responding to "Ski Da Bird"'s last post: I didn't think it was anyone's fault, it's just one of those unfortunate things. Hopefully the snow will come soon. Looks like Crested Butte is having a tough time to. Taos reminded me of Crested Butte in a lot of ways (pertaining to terrain). You shouldn't get in trouble. It looked like they were doing the best they could to open terrain and prevent people from killing their equipment and/or themselves. A tricky balance right now.

I think the plan with the high speed quad out of the base was: the high speed quad replaces lift 5 because #5 has the higher offloading station, and make #1 the auxiliary lift.

Would love to see pics from the first gen lifts and the Poma. What did Staedeli change between the first chair and the second generation?
This is what I found on Google:

Rhoda and two lifts in the back. I guess the Poma is on the right and the J-Bar on the left? http://www.firsttrac...5/11/rhoda1.jpg

Still have a couple of the J bars in my shop. Glad I never had to work on the old lift 4 from what I hear it had a lot of problems. Capacity needs is what got them the new quad.
