I can't really picture Snow King with a gondola. It just seems a bit out of character

Yeah, it does when thinking of the place as a classic ski area. But with all the summer tourists in the area it makes more sense. They have a lot of interesting things on the expansion map (I'll try to post the link later). I like the straight up stair case under the gondola, that would be a workout. For the winter it also lets them build a beginner are at the top, I can see how that would be appealing to beginners.

Peter mentioned this on his liftblog site...

"Rumor on Skilifts.org is SkyTrac will complete the abandoned, half-constructed Stagecoach lift on the Moonlight Basin side of Big Sky. I believe this Doppelmayr double came from the defunct Fortress Mountain in Alberta."

That got me thinking about the status of Fortress (it's currently cat skiing only). Somebody recently asked about it on Facebook and this was their reply...

"Hi Kim, we plan to operate one more season of cat skiing and have a planned resort opening the following season!"

I assume there will be some lift building involved if everything goes as planned.

The lift is a Doppelmayr fixed grip triple at Caberfae, MI. The concrete for all the towers has been poured. We will pour the bottom terminal this week and begin working on the top terminal next week. The lift is scheduled to arrive in the early spring of 2016 and will be ready for operation for the 2016-17 ski season.

I also hear Boyne Mountain may be replacing both Disciples and Disciples II with a detachable next summer.

That would sure make that area more skiable. its been rumored since 1998 when Thunder was moved and transformed into DII. Rumor always was that the Heather Express would come down from the Highlands and something bigger put in there. If you ran the lift line between the current two, and used one as a access lift, bottom of Ramshead/fuel depot to the top, thatd be money

Is this lift in a new area or replacing an older lift?

The new lift is a Doppelmayr Ministar and it is going to run from the bottom of North Peak (next to the CTEC quad) to the top of North Peak. The Clubhouse double will be removed next summer. Clubhouse starts at different point and lets off at mid-mountain. Getting Clubhouse lift out of he way will relieve congestion at mid-mountain and allow skier traffic to flow smoothly through mid-mountain and on to the bottom of North Peak where the new triple and existing quad will take skiers back to the top of North Peak. We are very excited about the lift design that Doppelmayr created. This will be a significant improvement for our skier experience.

So what your saying is you've been moving dirt at the base of Caberfae, instead of the top for a change . Sounds like a nice improvement, even though I always enjoyed riding Clubhouse, nothing better than a comfortable wood slat chair, truly!

I hear your neighbors to the north have started on a hill expansion.

This summer Caberfae has been moving dirt to create more easy skiing off of the top of North Peak. We also made a cut and fixed drainage at the bottom of North Peak to make room for the bottom terminal of the new lift and to allow for a wider run out at the bottom of Canyon.

We really like the ride on Club chair through the woods and are sad to lose that, but the top terminal and tower 8 (located in he middle of Easy St) are in he way of skiers coming down Smiling Irishmen and flowing into Upper Easy St. The bottom terminal blocks clear skier traffic flow to the bottom of North Peak. So Club chair has to be removed. We do plan to relocate it someday into a future expansion to the East of Shelter.

Our neighbors to he north are relocating the former Loki CTEC triple to a new terrain expansion in between North Face and Ridge Runner.

Seems that many folks on this forum also add significant ski lift modifications to this New Lifts Topic, so here goes for a project in Ontario. In the Spring / Summer of 2016, the lower terminal of the Arrowhead chair at the Alpine Ski Club will be moved 80 feet horizontally and 15 feet vertically uphill to allow for the landscaping infill around a new base chalet currently under construction. Alpine Ski Club is in Collingwood Ontario and the Arrowhead chair is a 1988 Dopplemayr quad. The new base terminal loading level will be even with the loading deck of the Summit Six high speed chair that sits nearby. Currently the exposed foundation of the new chalet makes it look like a big ocean liner dropped on a beach somewhere. It will take 19000 cubic yards of fill to do the regrade. Not a lift replacement, but it will keep a few industry people in a job for the summer.

While it remains to be seen if they can pull it off over next summer, The Balsams project in NH could find the installation of 6 new lifts if their phase 1 project stays as proposed. This would include at least 1 8 pax gondola from the resort to the top of Dixville Peak and likely 2 addition HSD chairss of some type. Just given the delays, not sure this will happen for 2016 (or at all, but with the State backing, seems like a good shot).

Saw something about a 6-pack for Mountain Creek. Likely to replace the Borvig triple which is the final lift remaining from the Vernon Valley Great Gorge era.
