Finally, the Mt. Rainer Gondola at Crystal, this is a pretty sharp looking system overall too.

Is the Mount Rainer Gondola a replacement for the Rainer Express, or is the Rainer Express Quad still there?

The Mount Rainier Gondola runs bottom to top. REX still stands.

REX runs in a separate alignment and has a self-contained run pod. MRG is primarily an access lift with the added benefit of allowing one-lift laps on Bull Run and Exterminator.

The gondola has very little capacity (600/hour) and you have to pay extra to ride it. Rex remains the primary access to the summit.

It appears that this lift climbs up one mountain, goes over a monster sheave assembly, then makes the steep climb back down. That's pretty impressive.

By the way you can also get a pretty good view of the breakovers from this picture, but sadly the focus was on a gondola cabin.

Funny, that's been commented on before! I really don't know the story behind them. It's actually the entire crossarm - makes it nice to work on, since they aren't on an angle. It may have had something to do with the catwalks, since they were added when the lift was installed here.

I think it is for aesthetics. They did that to match the angle of the power transmission line poles in the back ground.

Upon further review...looking at the power line poles and the chairs on line I see that they are indeed 'vertical'. I assume the cross arms were removed for transport and before reinstalling them the tube top was cut at an angle to match the tower inclination. (I was in Blackcomb with Yan in '80 and don't remember them being that way on the original installations).
Must make it a bi*ch to try and pick the rope off of those 8 gondola assemblies! :devil:
Also must have been a trick to set them with a helicopter- base bolts or imbedded Yan style?

Embedded in concrete, Yan style! Lifting the rope is actually no problem. It'll have to double check if the two towers lower down that are on a steep angle have their lifting frames like this, I don't think they are.

I didn't get a picture as I forgot my camera, but Schlasman's at Bridger looks fantastic from the rest of the mountain.
