Decided to be a maverick today and bump the Random Lift Photos to a new topic Heading

Random Lift Photos Number Four (6 pages) lasted from June 15/04 to Dec 25/04
Random Lift Photos Number Five (5 pages) lasted from Dec 26/04 to Mar 20/05
Random Lift photos Number Five (8 pages) lasted from Aug 29/04 to Aug 19/06

Random Lift Photos Number Six (21 pages) lasted from Nov 09/2006 to today Feb 10/2012

so I decided that I would start a new random photo topic by submitting this photo of the Heavenly double chair at Devils Glen Ski Club, Glen Huron Ontario. This photo was taken in the late 1960's/early 70's

The Heavenly chair was built in 1969 and is scheduled to finally be replaced this summer 2012. Heavenly is 1440 feet long, 455 vert, cap 1200/hr and speed 480 feet/minute.

Like Random Photos #6, Heavenly has out lived its usefulness and needs to be replaced. So cheers to old reliable lifts like Heavenly and to their newer replacements. Also cheers to old topics that refuse to die, so I am offering the axe (or computer keyboard keystroke in this case)

(time will only tell if Random Photos Number Six still asleep where it belongs )

Perhaps I should ensure that # 6 stays asleep. That's one of those moderation things that we sometimes forget due to more pressing issues.

I'd imagine it's not all that random.... given that I know where you worked and all.

Long line at lift 11. I definately don't miss that from when I have skied Vail in the past.

I actually had to resize those photos because the originals were too large in size to meet the uploading criteria. Why can't the file size limit be increased to 3.5 MB, which would make it possible to upload the full size images? It's not that I don't like it; I just would rather not have to make resized photos just to allow the images to upload.

I think that given their locations, the Mountaintop Express and Northwoods Express lifts primarily see traffic that is transiting through the area instead of traffic doing roundtrip skiing on those lifts. This even though they have put up a nice big sign at the top of the Teacup Express suggesting that you use the High Noon Express to get back. I actually did do that way, although going down the Sun Up Bowl was a little tough.

Trail conditions have improved significantly. There were still rocks and stumps on some Blue Sky Basin trails, and at least one little bare patch on Blue Ox in the Highline run pod. Other than that, things were in great shape.

The nice thing about skiing on a Super Bowl Sunday: absolutely no traffic going up or down! :luv: The only real sign that it was Super Bowl Sunday was what the lift attendants were writing as trivia questions at their chairlifts. In fact, aside from the Northwoods Express and Mountaintop Express lifts, the lines were nonexistent or very short at almost every chairlift on the mountain.

I'm sure we could. I'm not speaking for all the administrators, but I personally like having photos that are more in line with the size of the dialogue boxes. Full-size is also a relative term, depending upon the format your camera uses. My old point-and-shoot took 1 MB photos as its maximum resolution, for example.

Now that we're :offtopic:

Going back to a better snow time:

Crested Butte

Doesn't it seem odd that you can't find many images of the upper part of the Silver Queen Express lift line? I went on a little mission to rectify the problem. (I'll have extra ones on later)

Not really-- most people are either preparing to unload or scoping out their line (especially on that lift).

Right. However, I have a wrist strap to hold my camera in place, which makes things easier. That top part is also probably the steepest lift ascent I've ever been on. I'd bring up the fact that I also spent that weekend recording the four high speed quads, plus Gold Link, Painter Boy and Prospect, on video. See my YouTube channel TimeQueenofRome if you don't believe me.
