Wolf Creek has the traditional EJ backrests. Last year's Mountaineer at Deer Valley has these plastic slat backrests I've never seen anywhere else before. Is the old style still around, or was DV's a one off?

Looks like Stevens Pass is getting the slats too.

Gold Hill at Telluride has the slats, too. Telluride's other high speed quads, however, do not.

Breckenridge just released a few more construction photos from Peak 6 today. The three panorama pictures are official Breckenridge photos. The other five are photos I found elsewhere, such as the photo of lift tower tubes lying next to the Independence SuperChair, tower 1 on the Zendo lift, a few photos of panoramas at the top of the Kensho SuperChair, or the newly redesigned trail signs: Attached File  Peak 6 Panorama 1.jpg (389.68K)

Sikorsky S-64E SkyCrane (military Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe, remanufactured by Erickson Air Crane). The one in the picture is operated by Siller Helicopters.

Looks like a long way to go still on peak 6. Are they expecting to open mid Jan/ early Feb?

Opening dates for Zendo and the Kensho SuperChair are unknown.

Were the lifts part of the naming contest? They sound more like Völkl skis :)
Some Storm King updates. Top and two views of the bottom. They're pulling the haul top as I type.

Nah, they're actually Japanese names (my knowledge from looking the individual names up on Wikipedia) that fit in with the entire 'awaken your sixth sense' theme put into the rest of the new trails (with the exception being Barton Breezeway, the runout trail from Nirvana, Reverie, Daydream and the runs off the Elysian Field at the top of the lift, and the Peak 6 Parkway that leaves Pioneer near tower 15 on the Independence SuperChair and cuts across Wirepatch and Lincoln Meadows to reach Zendo. It will be more interesting to look at the Kensho SuperChair because it will have European-style siding on it compared to the infrastructure of the other lifts. This essentially will mean Breckenridge will have the most interesting hodgepodge of chairlift terminal styles between Poma high speed quads and six packs, as each one is slightly different (the only two pairs to even have the exact same style are the Mercury SuperChair and Rocky Mountain SuperChair, and the Independence SuperChair and Peak 8 SuperConnect, plus Imperial/BreckConnect).

They've recently flown in and laid down the towers for the Kensho SuperChair. It looks like at least the last eight towers of the lift will be above tree line. Attached File  Kensho SuperChair towers.jpg (124.1K)

The photos show that they've made more progress to date with Zendo (or Lift Z for short) than with the Kensho SuperChair.

I also noticed that they accidentally drew the quad as a SuperChair on the map (dashed line as opposed to the solid line of the other fixed grip lifts).

I noticed that almost right away. Actually, they used the dot-dot-dash-dot-dot-dash line used for the six packs, instead of the solid red line used on the double and triple chairlifts of Peaks 8 and 9. But then again, the legend hasn't been altered to allow a provision for fixed-grip quads, since until now, Breckenridge's quads have exclusively been high-speed quads. This is like an error on the 2002-2007 map where the Quicksilver SuperChair was accidentally drawn with the dot-dash-dot-dash line of a high speed quad and the Imperial lift was accidentally given the line of a high speed six pack.

Here's some HD video of tower installation of towers 15 and 16 on the Kensho SuperChair: http://j5ugcwczhf4tq...2d59c384adbf2b9. Some guesses I am making about the lift are:
  • The lift will have a hold-down tower for tower 1, and possibly for tower 2, similar to the Panoramic Express
  • According to what Breckenridge's Facebook poster said when I inquired about how long it took them to install the towers and tower tubes, the Kensho SuperChair has 22 towers and it took them just six hours to install all of the tubes and heads. Approximately the last seven or eight towers of the lift are above treeline. I'd estimate at this point that the lift will have around 120 chairs, given the lengths of the Independence SuperChair and Quicksilver SuperChair.
  • It is a clockwise lift.
  • There are a few pretty steep parts on the lift, given that tower 15’s sheaves have a 4S2C configuration, and tower 16 is a 4S4C configuration.

Regarding Zendo, I believe that lift has at least 13 towers, and is also a clockwise lift.

Nice. Looks like they reused some tower tubes from the old CTEC?

I think you're right. Here's a gallery of photos of the original Jupiter lift: http://www.remontees...rtage-4106.html. I guess the CTEC and Doppelmayr infrastructure is very compatible, given the tower heads are structurally similar, and there are tower numbers painted on the tower tubes themselves, in addition to the plates on the tower heads. You can clearly see that tower 12 was one of the tubes that was reused.

Update for Chair 12 replacement at Vail, looks like the rope is being spliced, a few more towers before which should help keep the line from dropping so low with a full load.

Doesn't matter, when you can send one company a template of the crossarm mounting plate and they can build one to match on the new towerhead.
