Mountain Top loading carpet

CH3skier's Photo CH3skier 21 Mar 2019

Hi,

Just was skiing this last week and noticed at Vail the Mountain Top Express lift is no longer using the loading carpet and the 90 degree load. Just wondering why the change since this is a new lift?

It was determined that the 90 degree loading combined with the loading carpet was too much for the guests to handle, they tried the current setup at the end of last season with great results. Current mountain manager is also not a fan of loading carpets.

Thanks for the response, I guess they will tear it out or just not utilize it?

The very worst lift to load I have experienced in the past 20 years is Wawa quad with a loading carpet. Stops more with a carpet than I suspect it would without, and every stop then skips a set of chairs while things get timed. I'm in favour of ripping every one out unless perhaps used on a slow beginners lift.

Wawa is a disaster and I'm not sure why. Every other one I've been on seems to help, but not there.

Is Wawa a fixed or a detach? What kind of carpet? I don't ride a lot of lifts with carpets but it seems like syncing of the lift and the carpet are off?

Whatever they do, the evidence of the carpet's existence will still be very apparent since the bottom terminal was build with that little expanded area at the turnaround for the carpet's purpose.

Decking is built around it and there is a vault that would need to be filled in, plan is to pull it this summer with the equipment that will be up there to install snowmaking, but it won't be a priority.
