I heard that Red Resort will someday be replacing the Silverlode and Motherlode Triples. Does anyone know if they will install a high-speed quad to replace Motherload?

Somewhere else on the forum, Allan said that they got a quote to replace the Silverlode with a Doppelmayr FG Quad. Is this a sign that Motherload is soon to be replaced also?

How long does it take to ride from the base up Silverlode and Motherlode to the summit?

I would have hoped they were going to put a HSQ in to replace Silverlode... but the decision makers don't seem to get it. I would hope that Motherlode is replaced with a HSQ in the next 5/6 years at the latest. The current ride to the top of Granite is about 20 minutes, with the replacement quad it will be about 25.

Safe to assume the Granite runs at 540 or 560 fpm, and the new quad would be 450 ?

Silverlode runs currently at 375 fpm, and Motherlode is 490... The replacement for Silverlode would also run at or near 375.

If Red does decide to get a new fixed-grip quad, it can easily be upgraded to a detachable with only the terminals needing to be replaced.

That is an understatement. Yet, I didn't think of it until he said it.

That seems sort of pointless to not have a HSQ because when they expand they are definitely going to need a high capacity lift running from the base.

Seeing as though as though a HSQ and a FGQ have nearly the same capacity, having silverlode be a FGQ would not be an issue. My personal opinion is that they put in a HSQ in place of motherlode, then replace red with motherlode. Extra chairs from the above switch could be used to upgrade capacity on silverlode. In reality, if they do replace silverlode with a FGQ, I would think in that case that it would be and idea to use the parts from silverlode to replace the T-bar. There could be some circumstance that would make that hard though.

Expansion? That mountain has runs running down all around it, where are they going to expand?

To the surrounding mountains, which we have the leasehold for! The T-Bar services it's area well for both ski school (you can get off anywhere, almost) and the terrain park. The latest rumour is the condo developers want to buy and relocate the silverlode chair to service their developments then hand it back to us to maintain. We can't have any more capacity up where the current Red chair is - there's not enough downhill capacity to support it. The reasons I would support high speed lifts aren't for the capacity - it's for the speed.

Is there a possible timeline when there will be expansion to the surrounding mountains? That would make Red Mountain Resort huge.

Allan: I may be remembering things wrong but I thought the old Granite double got you to the top in about 17-18 minutes. If so, it strikes me as ludicrous that a trip from the base to the summit of Granite is actually going to take longer than it did 25 years ago. Any lift servicing that kind of territory, length and vertical SHOULD be high speed. Old school or not, if I was considering buying property on the hill that would be a prime decision factor for me.

altaskier - you are correct, the old double was a 17 minute ride. The ride is already longer than the Granite chair was... and it's getting longer! I agree with you completly on both points - the lift and the real estate factor.

Allan, I saw that Red changed its name from Red Resort to Red Mountain Resort. Good move I think

Number of downloads: 9Just for interest's sake, in the process of moving some stuff I found this in a filing cabinet the other day, along with a bunch of other old lift tickets. Can't recall the exact year, but I know it was probably 1986 or 1987. The Conditions of Use note that "the ticket holder should not hold R.M.S.C. liable for any loss," etc. I presume this was when the resort was still community owned by the Red Mountain Ski Club.

Edited to add: I know the trip was in February, and for what its worth I think the "PD" stands for "President's Day". I recall talking to a lot of people from Spokane the week my buddy and I were there.
