Is there some special rush to get this completed or a summertime access issue?
It's always more expensive to do over-the-snow installs...

From the WP website: "The expansion area is in an inventoried roadless area and, therefore the necessary facilities will be constructed without the use of roads. Helicopters, over snow travel and pathways will be used for all construction."

Shawnee Peak Maine has some pictures on their website of crews dismantling their old Borvig Summit Triple and preparing the "new" CTEC Triple:

Are two lifts being dismantled because there are photos of the Summit Riblet triple along with photos of a Borvig triple (the photo with the green towers heads)?

The Shawnee lift looks like a newer Riblet in good condition, even with high hours does it make sense to replace it vs. rebuild or is there an other issue with this lift?

Shawnee's new lift is a 1984. It was in operation at Loon Mountain NH until 2004. The Riblet is also an '84 but Shawnee's night skiing operation makes it certain the CTEC has fewer hours of operation. The CTEC also was built to run 550 fpm. Shawnee's website states they plan run at 525 fpm along with a loading conveyor to help increase uphill capacity and decrease ride time.

Only one lift is being dimantled but some of the pictures are of the new lift. The green towers are CTEC. There are more pictures on Facebook.

Seems like it would have been easier to just go out and buy a bigger motor for the lift, although maybe it would not fit inside the drive unit.

If that were an option I'm sure they would've done it, especially Shawnee. What I've heard about them indicates they're very thrifty.
I don't think they're just replacing the lift to install a loading carpet and get an extra 25 fpm. My information is the CTEC was originally bought for expansion not replacement. If this is true, they must have a good reason to change their plans.

Looks like an atypical bluebird day up there. Hope they're taking advantage of it.

A couple of general questions about this install process at White Pass. How deep under the snow were the concrete tower foundations and the top and bottom station concrete pads.

I think they piled snow really deep at WP. That is a roadless area, so all heavy equipment are using the snow. Once the snow is gone they can only fly and hike, so it makes sense to pile up as much snow as possible for the install work.

It's supposed to be roadless. Not sure what the technical definition of a road is, but what they were building sure seemed like roads.
