Well it's about time I stop in and say hi, I signed up over a year ago and kinda forgot about this place. Sorry for the delay, how rude eh. I think I have been missing out, this a great site. I participate in a few forums and this one by far has the best layout and features, I love it.

My name is Brian Hay, wish I would have signed up with that name, it's my user name everywhere else I go on the net. Maybe it can be changed?
I don't know how much I will have to contribute as far as ski lifts go because I really don't know a lot about them. My passion has always been heavy equipment, I grew up around it, it's how I have been making my living since I was a teenager and now owner/operator for the past year. I did run a lift for a short time though out at Castle Mountain in Alberta (the little kids lift) while I was laid off from my normal job because of the cold. I liked it, was a lot of fun but that was a long time ago. Any of my old friends from there in here?

So why am I here if I'm not in the industry and know little about it? Because my business is all about extreme terrain and there are not many places that have more extreme terrain then a ski hill so I want to learn more about the industry and what's happening in it. I would also like to meet others that have machines like mine and I'm sure I can't be the only one in here that has one. I would love to see some pictures of Spyder Hoes working on ski hills if you got em. I have some incredible shots over on my forums but they are not my own, they are posted by my members. I will turn them onto this site and hopefully they come post them here for you guys too.

Have a great day all :)

Welcome! There were some pictures of Spyder Hoes from last year when A-Basin was digging the foundations for the Zuma quad. You can probably still find them around.

Welcome Brian,
Sold my Schaeff last year to a guy in Wyoming.
Owned it for 10 years! Broke and/or replaced every bolt and/or part on it!
Been using AIS for about four years now for the really extreme stuff when needed.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

You must of been a little sad to see your machine go after that many years, any regrets selling it? I imagine it has seriously reduced your stress level sourcing out to AIS though. I don't really know those guys, just know of them. But I have heard nothing but good things about them and the work they do. They are about the largest Spyder Hoe contractor in North America aren't they?

Here is my machine, a Kaiser TurboStar. So far it has been really good to me, haven't had much troubles with it.

Greetings, I believe I was in Nanaimo before (1993-or 1994). Is there a Navy base there? I think I was there for a few days when I was in the Navy (U.S.) During that same trip we stopped for a couple of days on a little island with a small port. Maybe that was Nanaimo? I think the base we were at was Victoria? Anyway, I have only seen western Canada but it was all beautiful. And I KNOW we were in Nanaimo. Chuck

Hi Mike and Emax, thanks for the welcome. Haha great signatures, I got a good laugh out of both of them.

Hi Chuck, I'm not far from the base, it's CFB Esquimalt in Victoria. Here's a map of Vancouver Island it's not very detailed but a good over view. My very first project was on the base, what a cool place to work. I was right next to the ship yard and had an incredible view.

Hi Skier. Wow, that had to hurt. Did the operator make it out OK?

I have several other photos of the one Skier posted, they were taken by the crew that went in to arrange for its removal. Yeah, that operator got lucky; the bottom of the hill he rolled it on was 500' or so further and was a large creek at the time...
Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you'll find it interesting, and even if you don't have anything to contribute I'm sure you'll learn a few things along the way.

I saw some great "spider hoe" images from Bridger Bowl's Schlasman's Lift today!

Some images appear on their web site.... Click Here.

The upper mountain snowpack is good and the snowmaking is "saving the day" for the lower trails.

I got some from europe. It's a kaiser s2 mounted on a pistenbully 300 Polar. It's located at Zermatt, Switzerland and they're using it up on the glacier mostly for resetting towers...

Great pictures, hope to post some of my own working on ski hills in the future. But until then here are a couple a friend down in Colorado posted on my forum. It's All Mountain Construction working on the Telluride Revelation Bowl.
