New Lifts for 2013

Peter's Photo Peter 19 Aug 2012

It's August, so I thought I'd start the 2013 new lifts thread with some of the possibilities.

- Gad 2 HSQ at Snowbird
- Chair 6 replacement at Crystal
- Bonaventure 6 pack at Jay Peak
- new Kanc at Loon, old one becomes King Pine Express at Sugarloaf
- Granite Chief HSQ at Squaw
- Tamarack's HSQ will likely go in somewhere

What am I missing?

Since this is speculative, I believe that Squaw is leaning towards a new Red Dog, in place of a new Granite Chief.

Also Hot Wheels at Alpine is will be replaced with a high speed, and a realignment.

Eldora might replace Cannonball and Challenge with HSS, other projects have been talked about at Vail and Winter Park but have not progressed past that. Probably depends what kind of winter we have this coming season.

Haystack in VT should be getting a new quad to connect it to the Hermitage Inn, might even go in this year. In other news they fixed up all the upper mountain lifts and started building the new base lodge. They're also still talking about the Chondola, apparently that would be built using EB5 money. Info here..

I think the Waterville Valley NH Green Peak chair has a good shot for 2013. Details here...

I haven't heard one way or the other. The only two times I've been to Loon, there were no lines anywhere so I have no clue if it needs more capacity.

Mt. Ashland OR might finally be able to expand...

And Red Mountain BC has the old Alyeska quad that was upgraded this year, sounds like it would be going on Grey.

Looks like possibly 2 new lifts on Peak 6 at Breck for '13/'14...a HSS and a fixed grip

This is an old rumor but its not presently an active one here at Loon. It is a long time before 2013 though.

Didn't realize they were considering two lifts, thought it would be one with a loading mid-station. Anyway, here is a map of the approved config...

Updated map at the bottom...

http://www.breckenri...of-Decision.pdf

And a couple stats from the Record of Descision...

The upper Peak 6 lift will be installed as a detachable six-person chairlift. The lift will have a slope length

of approximately 6,000 feet, a vertical rise of approximately 1,550 feet, and a design capacity of 3,000
people per hour (pph). Ground disturbance (grading) will occur for the installation of the top and bottom
terminals. This lift will be a bottom drive lift to minimize disturbance above treeline. The power line to
the top terminal will also provide power to the ski patrol/warming hut.

The lower Peak 6 lift will be installed as a fixed-grip four-person chairlift. The lift will have a slope
length of approximately 2,600 feet, a vertical rise of approximately 350 feet, and a design capacity of
2,000 people per hour (pph). Ground disturbance (grading) is required for the installation of the top and
bottom terminals. The lower Peak 6 lift will be constructed as a top drive lift.

Next question-- are they going to add another base area for these, or have them as 'access from Peak 7 only'?

Right off the 2010 rumor mill, Harmony to go the Crystal zone on Blackomb and be replaced by a six pack. (if we get another winter like last year.)

If we get another winter like last year, I shudder to think of the cuts. Definitely no new lifts. If we have one like Rob's, however, who knows?
