Aluminum is paramagnetic - that is, magnets are _slightly_ attracted to it.
So, pump up the Teslas and it will work

Today is the last total lunar eclipse until 2014. I'm going to go check it out in a few minutes.

Watching it now - through the window. Perfectly clear too!

Don't we get a 30-day long total eclipse every month?

Happy New Year everyone. Be safe out there.

Jan 1 2012. No hangover. I slept through it all.

Janek sent his greetings - a new idea is brewing.

Among the many new year traditions, there is the call to remember some folks who didn't make the full orbit. This year, I remembered Mike Carhart - long-time a Ctec fixture and a very stand-up guy. He called me shortly prior to his departure to say that he had enjoyed working with me - though we never really did. We were competitors - each affected by the work of the other. We shared a common sense approach to design - executed in different ways. Today, this industry could use a lot more of that.

Thanks Mike. I enjoyed working with you too.

Today, on the morning CNN Headline News (read: Yellow Press), there was a story that caught my ear. The ticker across the bottom of the screen read:

"...Get pregnant for free by a total stranger..."

On first notice, it occurred to me that this would make appropriate signage above the door of any bar. The story went further:

"(Mary's) husband's vasectomy could not be reversed. She had spent thousands of dollars on in vitro fertilization without success. Finally she logged onto Google and located many males offering to donate semen at a personal level (well sure!). The semen is provided fresh in a cup (aw shucks). This is apparently quite popular these days and the most common meeting place for the exchange is Starbucks. A sterile cup is provided to the donor who then retreats to the mens' room to produce the product."

The detail offered was exquisite - each revelation funnier than the last. The story finished up with a detailed description of the remainder of the process by the woman and her husband.

It wasn't looking like a very bright Friday, but this story made it.

Today my youngest son called his brother by name (Daniel) for the first time.
He still has to pronounce his own name (Silviu), although he identifies 90% of capital letters (especially on computer keyboards) and he recognizes his own name if written, even by hand. When he sees it, he exclames "io!", which in Romanian means "Me!". He's two years and two months old.

TODAY:

Today we celebrate that one of our good friends has made another trip around the sun turning scotch and groceries into waste. Happy birthday Bud! Hope you had a great birthday, and didn't have to work too hard... :p Or at least got to fiddle with fun projects at some point!
