I wonder if #16 (VB) will show up recycled somewhere else on the mountain either in high speed or as a fixed grip form (similar to what Snowmass did with Fanny Hill lift). Gondola definately sounds like a wise choice for an upgrade out of that base area.

I think #16 will end up parted out to the other 5 old dopp quads vail has. The lift has too many hours and is to worn out to be of any value as a reinstal

Sounds like a solid plan, but what kind of gondola has a 3,600 p/h capacity? Unless they plan on building a funitel or 3S, I think they'd be pretty hard pressed to dramatically increase the capacity from a detachable quad. In any case I'm looking forward to this improvement.

Wizard, Solar and Seventh?? Keep wondering when they will be replaced due to sheer age. Went in in 85??? so about 26 years old? Whistler Gondala was also 88 I think so getting a bit old too.

General question, how long does a good HS quad live until it gets to be like an old car, cheaper and more reliable to replace than fix?

About 25 years, in my book. Mine is 26 years old this year and while I'm not signing the receipts for the parts, I know they're not getting any cheaper and I'm replacing more every year. If I had an unlimited budget I could make the thing run for many more years, but there won't be many original parts left at the end of that time.

This morning on the radio I heard that Vail's new super-cool gondi will be an L-P.

Devil's Glen, a private member owned ski club in Glen Huron, Ont, will replace a 1969 Hall double (Hades double) with a Quad chair on about the same alignment, The new chair will be slightly longer and higher than the current chair. Hades current stats are length: 1440 feet vert: 455 feet Capacity: 1200 per hour

This replacement will be done in summer 2012

In summer 2013 Devil's Glen will move the Lucifer Quad, a 1991 Borvig quad, to replace a mid 1960's T bar (Hallelujah T bar)

NEW HAMPSHIRE SKI RESORT GETS FIRST HIGH SPEED QUAD LIFT

Peak Resorts announces the acquisition of the high speed detachable quad chairlift formerly of Ascutney Mountain, VT. The installation of the lift, along with a terrain expansion is planned at Crotched Mountain, NH for the 2012-2013 season. This 3 million dollar capital investment will happen on the 10 year anniversary of the reconstruction of the resort.

We are very excited about the prospect of adding a detachable lift at Crotched Mountain. This lift will provide quick access to the summit, ultimately providing more value and vertical to our guests. Along with the lift, the addition of 25 acres of skiable terrain will be a significant upgrade for the resort.", said Jesse Boyd, VP of Operations for Peak Resorts.

While replacing the current Summit fixed grip lift, the only high speed quad lift in Southern NH will provide an uphill capacity of 2400 persons per hour, and access to an additional 25 acres of terrain in less than 4 minutes of time on the lift. The additional terrain access is accomplished by the extension of the current summit lift profile to the top of the mountain, approaching 1000 feet of vertical drop. The additional 25 acres of terrain will encompass three extra slopes and two glade areas. The new terrain will have 100 percent fan snowmaking coverage as well as being lit for night skiing.

SAM Magazine--February 3, 2012--Peak Resorts, the parent company of Crotched Mountain, N.H., announced the acquisition of the high speed detachable quad at Ascutney Mountain, which has closed its doors. Crotched will install the 5,000+-foot lift this coming summer.

The Garaventa CTEC lift will replace a fixed grip lift and access an additional 25 acres of terrain, which will be covered 100 percent with fan gun snowmaking. The total cost of the project will be $3 million.
