Nice, I wish they were adding more terrain but I'll take a new quad.

Hello, I have heard that Le Massif in Quebec is getting a small gondola or funitel to go between the base and the new train station. I assume it will be very very short, and that it will be in operation (apparently) for when the train starts running this summer to Quebec City.

Any details of any kind? Doppelmayr or Poma lift? I would assume Doppelmayr as everything else is Dopp.

Thanks

Upper Tiehack and Little Eagle chairs at Buttermilk will be replaced by a detachable quad this summer, so long as the ski area can obtain permits from the US Forest Service and city of Aspen.

Hunter has begun removing the 2 doubles from their Westside. They've also announce that the replacement with be detachable. It's the former Snowlite Express from the front of the mountain, but there was talk of converting it to fixed grip.

Le Massif will be getting a pulse gondola, to link the new train station to the base of the new gondola (that was installed last summer and fall).

I would assume it to be Doppelmayr as everything there is Dopp. No other details yet.

From their website...

Summer Development Projects at the Mountain
During the summer months, work will commence in anticipation of Winter 2011-12, including the installation of a 10km family luge run and its infrastructures. “In addition, we will be erecting two railway stations (Grande-Pointe Station at the base of the Mountain, and Gare du Quai in the village of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François), and a pulsed gondola – Le Transit – to convey visitors between Grande-Pointe Station and the Massif Express Gondola loading area. On-mountain, the bridge on L’Ancienne will be replaced with an arched culvert, while a footbridge will extend from the Massif Express loading area to the base chalet,” he reported.

I think that I should clarify this just a bit. While they are indeed approved to start construction now, I think that the Navajos will appeal the last court decision which was back in December, which was decided in the Snowbowl's favor.

The Snowbowl wants to start construction on the snowmaking system this summer and make snow to mid-mountain this coming winter, but I'm not sure that they will until they know for sure that a court will not decide that they cannot make snow after all.

Now, how does this tie into the Humphrey's lift expansion? Well, these expansion runs are on a south face, and when I was there, which was just a little over a week since it had last snowed, this face was totally bare except for a little pile of snow behind each tree. Now, they could cut the runs and just let you ski them without the lift, because they are going to put a catwalk in so you can access them from the top of Agassiz Lift. Until there is snowmaking on these runs though, they could only be open 20-30 days a year is my guess. Also, the Humphrey's lift is probably going to be a used lift, coming from the Sunset Lift which will be replaced by a high-speed quad to mid-mountain. This all seems like a lot to do over this summer, and seems like a big gamble for a small ski area like Snowbowl, when they have no guarantee that they can even be open until they have snowmaking.

Here is what I think the timeline will look like for improvements:

This Summer: snowmaking and more runs on the north and west faces

Next Summer: Sunset high-speed quad

Summer 2013: Humphrey's lift and runs and maybe the Hart Prairie high-speed quad or the Aspen Meadows lift re-alignment

Summer 2014-2015: Expansion completed, finish snowmaking system to summit

These are just my thoughts, they could be wrong.

Holiday Valley is replacing the SnowPine double with a quad. The quad is the former Morningstar lift which was replaced last year. The Snowpine double will see new life at Toggenburg Ski Area which is also in New York.

That's quite interesting about the lifts at White Pine, WY.

From the videos I've seen on YouTube, its lifts don't seem to be close to full capacity and it's also strange that they would want to replace them both.

White Pine has been for sale for several years now and really doesn't get that much snow with limited resources for snow making. I would not be surprised to see them stop offering downhill skiing. It's a great area for cross country touring.

Welcome to the forum Ballsout. Apparently White Pine was puchased by a local group back in Oct. The "Citizens to Save White Pine"...

They had good year by there standards...

Seems like a lot of those smaller Wyoming places are just hanging on. Hope they can all survive.

Ascutney Mountain Resort in Vermont has agreed to sell its North Peak Express high speed quad to Burke Mountain, VT for $1.55 million. Ascutney did not operate this season due to financial problems. The 2000 Garaventa CTEC high speed quad is the mountain's only summit lift.

In case you haven't been following the Installs page (http://www.skilifts....d=56&category=2)

- Roundtop's new quad is a SkyTrac, not Doppelmayr.
- Chair 6 at Pine Knob, MI is getting a new SkyTrac drive terminal.
- Mt. Hood Meadows is getting a new high speed quad, replacing Easy Rider I believe.
- No new beginner lift at Revelstoke.

Thanks to whomever added this info.

The HSQ going in at Mt. Hood Meadows is replacing the Yellow/Stadium lift.
