I had a couple days off work and took full advantage. I headed north to look for signs of winter/ski season approaching and found some promising views....

The fishing was tough though, didn't dampen my spirits one bit once I saw the dusting!!

... signs of snow - yup. it's that time of year. For nearly forty years, when the turf turns slightly white - anywhere - my phone rings constantly and I can't get a thing done. Folks are firing their lifts for the first time since they were shut down in April - new folks, usually - names I've not heard before. That's my sign of snow.

and I am so glad it is that time of year. I lived in Alma, CO, just south of Breckenridge for a year and loved the long winter. Then I had to move back to the city of Pittsburgh for a year, kinda gloomy, snow - yes - but not that powder found at altitude. I am now in Hood River, OR waiting for the first large snow fall of the year.....

I read your profile, ever heard of a band named 'Whiskey Blanket' - folk and bluegrass music

Nope - but I'll check into it. I hope to resume picking as soon as I figure out how I can use the left-hand fingers.

Well, it's coming. This morning, the lower canyon (first part of my drive to work) was a skating rink - major hail... that stuck. Rather than risk the car (many folks driving down... with apparent abandon), I elected to return home. Computer tasks can be done anywhere - and cars are expensive.

The snow up on the mountain is so beautiful.

Most ski resorts reported average 3 inches of the new snow.

I think first ski resort will be open...could be Brighton or Solidute. Next to Alta and Snowbird. Wait and see.

Canyons, Deer Valley and Park City will open on first week of December.

Interesting to see that places are starting to get snow. We have not had any significant snowfall in the U.P. yet. There was one day that there was some light sleet falling. It was so light that one had to be outdoors to see it. Everyone in school was ecstatic though. I guess that is a sign that snow is coming soon.

For the 5 years I lived up there it was always this week when we saw the first snow.
