The Mittersill project would be good news for the Doppelmayr CTEC crew in NH. I heard the Cranmore lift might be a Doppelmayr CTEC ECO.

From what I hear, the new base will be where Smokie's bar is located. The building will be torn down as soon as the asbestos remediation is completed, possibly this week or next. I am not sure where the turn will be located but my guess is somewhere between tower 4-7. The base will not be moved until the end of the summer season but the other work will take place during the summer. In addition, the old building next to the bar will be torn down. The ski patrol/clinic "temporary" building will also be gone and that whole slope will be regraded. The area (more or less) where the gondola ends today will become the lower terminal for the HSQ replacing the Golden Eagle lift which will also happen this year unless something has changed in the last few weeks. The new lift will have a mid-station about where the Golden Eagle ends now and will continue up to an area near the entrance to the terrain park on Sun Peak which will allow access to either Sun Peak or over to Red Pine/Saddleback. and on to Tombstone lift. The area above the current base of Golden Eagle will be regraded to make it easier to get to the base of the new HSQ. Some type of surface lift may be needed to complete this picture, I am fuzzy on these details. Also the Iron Mountain lift is supposed to be a go this year but the last I heard the exact location of the upper terminal was still up in the air due to permit issues but I have not heard any details on that in about a month or more so it may or may not be settled yet. This lift is also supposed to be a HSQ but I guess time will tell on that. I thought an announcement was going to be made already but I guess some details are still not final so all of this may be subject to change, but work on tearing down the buildings does seem to be moving along so something is happening for sure! I also heard the snow cat maintenance building may be moving to points unknown since it is in the way of the golf course which is supposed to start later this summer, although we have heard that before...

So 3 projects at once, right?
1. Leitner-Poma will be moving the bottom of the current gondola to the skiers' right near the top of the Cabriolet. Do we know if the necessary turn upline will be acheived with canted sheaves or a midstation?
2. A new high speed quad replacing Golden Eagle, probably Doppelmayr CTEC built, will go from the current gondola base to a midstation at the top of the current Golden Eagle and then on to a top terminal near the top of Sun Peak Express.
3. Another high speed quad, probably built by Doppelmayr CTEC, will go on Iron Mountain.
The saga that is the lift history at The Canyons continues. Sounds like these steps might fix some of the past problems.

I don't know if it will be sheaves or a mid station on the gondola at this time. Both chairs are supposed to be Doppemayr/CTEC.

Wow, what a surprise. I always thought the Golden Eagle replacement would be a skilifts.org fantasy and never actually happen. A rather unceremonious end for a cool old lift that was holding back the better half of the resort, but was always a nice step back in time. But this is exactly what The Canyons needs. The new owners are showing that they care about skiing again, and since there won't be any houses anywhere near Golden Eagle, this is an entirely skiing-motivated move.
The new lift does a couple things: first, if high winds take down the gondola, you don't have a 45-year-old Riblet double taking over the entire mountain's capacity. And on a normal day, half of the pressure is taken off the gondola by a lift you can actually ski directly off of in two different places. Second, you can now do quick laps on the best terrain in the entire resort. Third, they'll probably start actually blowing snow on the Golden Eagle runs if they have a lift that will be open every day, and since there will be more traffic there now, maybe they'll spend some money keeping up the Super Condor runs too. Finally, it eliminates a cattrack to get to the bottom of Snow Canyon lift, which is a nice bonus, but not a particularly great need. I wonder how they'll be able to regrade the bottom area to make it accesible from Willow Draw without the handle tow.
The gondola realignment is only to make room for the new Golden Eagle, but it also takes away a common complaint about The Canyons, that you have to lug your skis a long way across the pavement before you get to the mountain. Moving it right next to the Cabriolet is a nice thing. The new location is probably 200 yards to the left though. They might have to relocate towers as far up as the "Welcome to the Canyons" and "Wow!" towers.
And the Iron Mountain lift should be another great thing. Hopefully the terrain is worth the trip. As it stands now, accessing it requires two painful lift rides on Peak 5 and Dreamscape, but hopefully they can cut another run straight down to the bottom from Tombstone. Or maybe they could open the Timberline fixed quad in both directions.
Exciting times for The Canyons. I haven't been there in a couple years because it had gotten to be such a disappointment lately. Definitely worth a trip next year

One more thing, when are they planning to move the gondola base? Summer gondola ops run from June 18 to August 29. Will that leave enough time to do it? Or did they do it while nobody was paying attention already in May and June?
The website says the villlage webcam is down for the summer due to construction, and "Stay tuned." The terrain park cam is down for construction too, probably because the upper stage of the new Golden Eagle cuts right through the park

The Canyons is being very secretive about their plans; they say on their Facebook page that they will not be announcing their plans until late august!

Whitewater, BC has purchased the old chair 5 triple from Vail and is installing it this summer in a large expansion area called Glory Ridge. 2,000 feet of vertical and a mile long with 19 towers.

A new real estate access lift has been green lit for construction this summer. It will connect homes and town houses of the South Peak Resort with the Lincoln Express on South Mountain. The resort will own the lift and Loon will operate and maintain it. It will be a Doppelmayr ECO lift; its a short one, about 600 feet long with less than 200 vertical feet.

From The Canyons' webcam, there is a nice line of completed tower footings from the village to the top of the old Golden Eagle. There is a terminal foundation there too but nothing above that. Anyone heard anymore on whether there is a second section or not? The silence from the resort is strange considering their multimillion dollar investment on a new lift!

I have received confirmation from the ski area that they will infact be installing a quad to replace the removed double chair which will be in operation this winter. It is the old Kidderbrook quad from Stratton. They say it will have a length of about 1km. Not sure yet of the exact alignment, but probably near or close to the old double alignment is my guess.
They will also make two new trails to coincide with the new lift installation.
More details as I hear them.

It was an old Poma. I think it was installed 1978 ish. It's listed in the install pages on this site in any case. But its gone now, came down in April.

The Facebook page said that the Upper Holly's bike trail, which is where the second stage of the new lift would be, is closed for construction for a few days. Sounds like the second stage is going in.
