Does anyone know anything about the status of the following 4 projects?

Iron Mountain at The Canyons
Deer Crest at Deer Valley
Outback at Mt. Bachelor
Legends Express at Durango

These are on the list but I'm inclined to remove them since there have been no official announcements.

I'd leave Deer Crest on the list. I was surprised they didn't do it last year, and the people at the hotel seem to think it's been a done deal for months. They didn't make any kind of announcement on Lady Morgan lift until later on in the year.

Update:

"Deer Valley will not be replacing the Deer Crest chairlift this coming summer or any chairlift. It is something that is in our master plans and will be one of the next chairlifts to be upgraded."

Hotel people lied then. Maybe next year.

Last monday after end of the ski season 2009-2010, I went up to Deer Valley and looked at the 3D display ski trails at Snow Park Lodge. I noticed two proposed lifts appear. One is locating between Wasatch Express and Sultan Express. Other is locating above of Jordanelle Gondola. Here are two pictures so you can see them.

Well isn't the lift below Sutlan basically how it is now that Sultan has been lengthened and replaced? That model is of how it was when Sultan used to be a triple, I think.

That model is one of my favorite things to look at, but it's very out of date. The lift below Sultan will not happen because the new high speed quad goes 500 vertical feet further downhill. I would doubt the lift between Bald and Deer Crest is happening either, since that area is east-facing, very low elevation, and Deer Crest already has trouble holding snow. Empire Canyon, opened in 1998, is still shown as proposed, and there is still a "Future Lift X" going up to the top of the Daly Chutes that I hope and pray will never be built.

VAIL, Colo. -- Chair 5 in Vail's back bowls is being replaced and that means the infamous panty tree is going to go.

Crews started dismantling the lift on Monday, according to Katie Adamson, Vail spokeswoman.

Chair 5 will be replaced by a four-seat lift in time for the next ski season. However, crews will have to take a break in the middle of the project to allow for elk calving in the area. Calving season is May 6 to June 30.
The project also means the removal of 100 to 200 trees, according the Vail Daily newspaper.

One of those trees being cut down is the famous Panty Tree. For years, people have been throwing women's undergarments on one tree next to Chair 5. It's become such a landmark, the tree was even featured in a Grand Marnier ad campaign in 2005.

Interestingly, the Aspen Times newspaper wrote an article 5 years ago that said the panty tree tradition started in Aspen. The article also said Vail's tree was cut down one April Fool's Day, but the very next day another nearby tree took up the cause.

Vail Resorts expects a new panty tree will emerge. "We fully expect [the tree] to be reinvigorated and we will fully embrace it," said Adamson.

And don't miss the Ode to the Pantry Tree from Ski Magazine including four reasons not to throw underwear on a tree.

Read an article today that mentioned the opening of Iron Mountain for 2011/2012 at the Canyons. Of course you can't always believe what you read, but it does increase my suspicion that it won't happen this summer.

A publication from Devil's Glen Ski Club (one of Ontario Canada's many private ski clubs) says that Craigleith Ski Club near Collingwood Ont. will be installing a high speed chair this summer (size not stated).

Looks like the lift at Cragleith will be a Doppelmayr CTEC high speed quad replacing the Funnel chair, a 1981 Hall triple.

Looks like Mt. Pisgah, NY will be getting a new T-bar this summer. A supplier has not yet been chosen.

Village gets $600,000 grant for new T-bar lift, trail system at Mount Pisgah Ski Center

By CHRIS KNIGHT, Enterprise Senior Staff Writer
POSTED: April 29, 2010

SARANAC LAKE - The village can finally put the 1940s-era T-bar lift at Mount Pisgah Ski Center out to pasture.

The state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has awarded the village a $600,000 matching grant for a new T-bar and a series of trails that are designed to turn the village-run ski hill into a year-round, multi-use recreational facility.

Village Mayor Clyde Rabideau made the grant announcement at a press conference today in the Mount Pisgah ski lodge. He said the funding was secured through the combined efforts of the Friends of Mount Pisgah, village Community Development Director Jeremy Evans and Pisgah Manager Matt Cook.

"Together we got this grant, and we will make it happen," said Rabideau, who was joined at the press conference by members of the Saranac Lake High School Ski Team, 18-year-old Olympic ski jumper Peter Frenette and Assemblywoman Janet Duprey.

Cook said securing the grant was "a huge accomplishment" for the village. He said Saranac Lake was the only community to receive the full amount it had requested.

"I was ecstatic when the word came in," Cook said. "It gives new life to this venue."

The bulk of the funds will be used to purchase and install a new T-bar lift, which village officials say is badly needed. The current T-bar was already 20 years old when it was installed at Pisgah in the mid-1960s.

Village Mechanic Wayne Voudren said its been difficult to get replacement parts for the old lift, meaning village crews have had to "do a lot of fabricating (of parts) to keep it going."

"It served the village well," he said. "Hopefully this new one will last as long as the old one."

The village is hoping to get the new T-bar installed over two to four months this summer so it's up and running in time for the start of the next ski season. Cook said the village has already contacted several lift companies.

The new T-bar is just one aspect of a larger, $850,000 project that's designed to help turn Mount Pisgah into a year-round recreational facility. The state funding will also be used to develop a 1.5-mile paved trail accessible to the elderly and disabled, and a 3-mile trail system for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking and running.

"The thought of this parking lot at Mount Pisgah being full 12 months a year is now a reality," Cook said. "There will be a place for people to ski, run, snowshoe, mountain bike and get out into the woods."

Frenette, a Saranac Laker who competed in ski jumping at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in February, said he learned to ski at Mount Pisgah.

"It's a great place for young kids to learn to ski and try to get a career in skiing," he said. "It's great that we'll have cross-country trails and a new lift. It's pretty exciting."

The village has to come up with a $250,000 local match for the grant. Cook said the Friends of Mount Pisgah has agreed to contribute $150,000 while the village would kick in $100,000 to cover the match.

Friends of Mount Pisgah has organized numerous fundraising events for the lift project over the past year, including cocktail parties, a garage sale, a silent auction and dinner, and a comedy show. One of the group's biggest events came on the last day of the Pisgah ski season in March, when local kids got the chance to ski with members of the U.S. Alpine Ski Team, including several Olympians.

"Everyone has worked so hard," said Natalie Leduc, a member of the Friends of Mount Pisgah who lives two houses away from the venue. "If you look at the list of our contributors, all the names are folks who learned to ski there all those years ago. I can't tell you how delighted I am."

Wayne Feinberg, the group's vice president, said more than $65,000 has been collected for the "Lift Mount Pisgah" campaign.

"We still need to raise a little more money, but we believe that if everybody knows we're this close and we can make this happen this year, those contributions will come in," Feinberg said.

The next fundraiser, a picnic with live music sponsored by the Lake Placid Pub and Brewery, will be held at the mountain on June 6.

There is a good chance the Kadenwood pulse Gondola at Whistler will go this year. Not 100% confirmed yet.

I heard a rumor that Shawnee Peak Maine was going to install a used CTEC Triple they bought from Loon Mountain a while back (the former North Peak chair). Shawnee confirmed via e-mail that they are in fact replacing the Summit Triple and it will have a loading conveyor.

Has anyone confirmed that Vail indeed plans to contract with Leitner-Poma for the Chair 5 replacement? I ask because while the 2010 install list shows it as a Leitner-Poma this project is not yet on the Leitner-Poma list for 2010 (http://www.leitner-p...om/projects.php). Also is Vail going to keep the same name for the chair (e.g. High Noon) or change the name?

I think the L-P list just hasn't been updated in awhile because the Hunter Mountain six pack has been announced as L-P but also isn't on there.

Chair 5 at vail is indeed l-p and the first l-p to feature leitner equipment, so it will have leitner grips and terminals.

From Shawnee's Website:
Summit Triple Lift to Undergo Total Transformation!
Date: May 6, 2010
Author: Melissa Rock

Shawnee Peak Ski Area is proud to announce that the existing Summit Triple Chair will be replaced this summer with a faster, bigger, more modern lift!

Servicing the entire mountain, Shawnee Peak's New Summit Triple Chairlift will feature larger seats, a faster ride and the newest technology for loading lifts - the Emmegi Conveyor Loader.

On Thursday, April 29, Shawnee Peak crews began the task of removing chairs and dismantling the existing lift.

The New Summit Triple Chair

Shawnee Peak purchased the New Summit Triple from Loon Mountain in 2006, where the lift had serviced a low-use area of the mountain - mainly on weekends and holidays.

"The existing Summit Triple has been running essentially non-stop, day and night, since 1984," said Chet Homer, Owner of Shawnee Peak. "The New Summit Triple has approximately half the number of operational hours. We know that the new lift will serve us well for many years to come."

Conveyor Belt Loader

Located at the bottom of the New Summit Triple Chair, the Emmegi Conveyor Belt Loader will allow the chair to run at 525 feet per minute - approximately 20% faster than the old Summit Triple. Users will simply load the moving conveyor belt, which will automatically load the skiers onto the faster-moving chair.

Ski area operators who utilize this technology have discovered that "stops and slows" decrease by approximately 50%, giving the riders a much faster ride up the mountain.

"With a faster speed and fewer stops and slows, the New Summit Triple Chair is a monumental improvement to the skier experience," said Homer. "We anticipate that the total ride time will be 8-10 minutes."

Big News on Leitner-Poma's projects page http://www.leitner-p...om/projects.php

- Gondola relocation at The Canyons
- FG Quad replacing a BM Lifts quad at Mt. St. Louis Moonstone, Ontario
- FG Quad replacing a T-bar at Table Mountain, Saskatchewan
- High Speed Quad at Cragleith, Ontatio replacing a Hall triple will be L-P, not D-CTEC

Why on earth is The Canyons moving a lift again? I can't see L-P moving the Cabriolet or Frostwood, so it must be Flight of the Canyons? It opens June 19th for summer, though, according to the website.

It appears Dopp/CTEC won the bid for the Mittersill chair at Canon NH...

http://www.nh.gov/do...nts/80473RB.DOC

Also, Cranmore NH is trying to get a new quad in for next season, along with a relocation of the chair the quad replaces...
