More pictures of the lift would be great since I only took four of it when I was at Deer Valley in 02.

Thanks CH3Skier.

I have some pictures of Deer Crest...I think it was in 2007. I will go skiing there in two weeks. I can take some pictures of that lift. If heavy snow then I won't take the pictures. I will let you know I take the pictures or not.

Have a good day.

I went on Sunday and have a bunch of pics from Deer Valley, I just need to reduce the file size in order to post them.

That is great! I don't have to have post my pictures as well as you know I have hard time to make reduce the file size. (I missed old verison...it had no problem. This one don't allow large sizes!).

If you want to send me the originals too, that would be great.

Do you know how to use an FTP client?

An FTP Client is used to transfers files from a local location to a remote one. It's mainly used for transferring files to web servers.

Hey Cameron,
I posted the Deer Crest pics in the image section. If you still want the full size images, do I send them to you at your skilifts email?

Beaver Creek has grand plans.

Summary of lift stuff:
1. Replacement Rose Bowl High Speed Quad
2. Replacement Strawberry Park Gondola
3. New Beginner High Speed Quad in McCoy Park
4. Replacement Chair 2 Triple or Quad
5. Replacement Centennial Express Gondola, High Speed Six or High Speed Eight

Beaver Creek eyes new terrain, lifts
Resort's 10-year plan envisions new terrain in Rose Bowl, Bachelor Gulch and McCoy Park and up to more two gondolas
Lauren Glendenning

AVON, Colorado — If all goes as planned, Beaver Creek Resort could add more terrain and two new gondolas sometime in the next 10 years.

Tom Allender, a senior planner with Vail Resorts, held a public meeting with Don Dressler, U.S. Forest Service district ranger for the Eagle/Holy Cross Ranger District, Thursday evening in Avon to show early plans of what Beaver Creek Resort officials would like to see at the mountain.

The plan, the Beaver Creek Resort Master Development Plan, is a general concept of where the resort is headed in terms of development in the future, Allender said. The U.S. Forest Service would accept the plan, but it doesn't mean anything could get built until more specific plans are submitted for approvals by the Forest Service.

“This doesn't allow us to implement anything until we submit site-specific plans,” Allender said.

That said, Beaver Creek has its sights set on upgrades like a high-speed quad lift in the Rose Bowl, replacing the slow-moving three-seater there now. That lift replacement would also include about 3 acres of new advanced-intermediate terrain, Allender said.

The World Cup Birds of Prey Downhill could also include women someday, if plans to cut out trees near the current men's downhill course go through. The new women's downhill course would be about a six- or seven-acre area, Allender said.

Chair 12, the Strawberry Park Express, could also “conceivably upgrade to a gondola,” Allender said. The gondola would lead skiers and snowboarders to a new restaurant up top, too.

Not far from there, at the McCoy Park Nordic Center, would be another high-speed quad lift that would require “very little tree-cutting,” Allender said. Adding such a lift would allow Beaver Creek to add about 130 acres of beginner to intermediate terrain in the McCoy Park area, which means the resort would have to shift the Nordic Center around a bit.

“At the top of the (Strawberry Park) gondola and where the Upper Beaver Creek Express (Chair 18) is, we would have great new beginner terrain up there,” Allender said.

There's also an opportunity for another intermediate trail south of the Strawberry Park chair, or potential gondola, for another intermediate trail there.

Chair 2, the beginner lift to the east of the Buckaroo Gondola, would also be upgraded to a triple or quad.

There's also big opportunities for new ski trails in the Bachelor Gulch area of Beaver Creek, mostly due to the need for mountain pine beetle-affected tree removal there, Allender said.

The Centennial Express, essentially the main lift at Beaver Creek that gets heavy use, is also set to upgrade to either a gondola, six-person lift or eight-person lift, he said.

None of these plans are written in stone, however. Allender said that with each site-specific plan application, things could easily change.

Dressler said the plan, which is a requirement for the special use permit Beaver Creeks operates under, helps the Forest Service see how projects fit into the scope of the resort. It's a flexible document that operates like a road map for the next seven to 10 years. Dressler expects Beaver Creek to submit a final draft by April, which would take about four to six weeks for the Forest Service to accept, he said.

“When Beaver Creek gives us a proposal to upgrade a chairlift, we want to know what that does to the (overall) mountain,” Dressler said. “That's what this document helps provide.”

About 20 people at Thursday's meeting were interested in what the overall mountain could look like, too.

Snowboarder Mike Hardaker, who calls Beaver Creek his home mountain, said he's been riding Beaver Creek for the last 10 years and wants to know what the next 10 will bring.

“I'm excited to see what the future possibilities are,” Hardaker said. “I'd love to see them expand the terrain there — I think it could use some more challenging terrain.”

Sunshine purchases Olympic ski lift
Last Updated: Monday, January 11, 2010 | 6:02 PM MT Comments15Recommend6
CBC News
Alberta's Sunshine Village ski hill has purchased a four-person chairlift from Whistler Blackcomb amid concerns over too much development.

The new lift was installed at Whistler to shuttle Olympic spectators to and from the hill. It will be dismantled and shipped to Sunshine as soon as the winter games wrap-up in March.

Mike McIvor, of the Bow Valley Naturalists, is concerned the new lift could be used to push for further development at the resort.

"That then becomes your lever to push for more and more capacity in your parking lot which isn't situated in a good place for growth," said McIvor.

Sunshine has been lobbying for more parking and an additional lodge to be built at the resort. A long-term development plan will be presented to Parks Canada in the coming weeks.

The new lift is capable of moving 1,800 skiers an hour and will replace the hill's aging Strawberry Chair, said Sunshine spokesperson Doug Firby.

"The Strawberry Chair is the oldest chair that we have at Sunshine," said Firby. "It was installed in the '70s and was made by a company that is no longer in business." Richard Leavens, of the Association for Mountain Parks Protection and Enjoyment, said he has no environmental concerns with the new purchase.

"I think it's just an improvement that Sunshine is doing to give skiers a better experience," said Leavens.

The cost of the chairlift has not been released.

Firby said the lift should be up and running by next ski season.

Another one we already knew about but confirmed:

New Ski Lift at Bridger Bowl for 2010-11

Bozeman, MT - As Bridger Bowl systematically replaces its aging Riblet double chairs with more modern and efficient chairlifts, this summer's big project at the ski area outside of Bozeman will be to replace both the Deer Park and Bridger lifts with a single triple chair.

The new Doppelmayr CTEC triple will replace the two aging doubles, installed in 1964 and 1971, that serve as the ski area's upper mountain workhorses in the central terrain pod. The new lift will have the maximum recommended capacity of 1,500 skiers per hour, providing nearly the same uphill vertical transport feet compared to the current Bridger and Deer Park double chair lifts combined.

The new Bridger triple will have a midway unload terminal to accommodate race team training. The old Deer Park road and lift unloading area will be reclaimed and contoured to that slope's original natural state to provide uninterrupted runs from top to bottom with no road cuts from Avalanche Gulch to Bronco.

This project will also include expanded snowmaking on the ski area's Hanton’s Hollow, Powder Horn and Boot Hill runs. Additionally, a short rope tow will be installed to provide access to the new lift and Deer Park Chalet when returning from the south side of the mountain, a role previously played by the Deer Park chair.

Bridger Bowl officials indicate that this is the most important lift on the mountain, for without reliable access, ski patrol cannot perform the avalanche hazard reduction work required to open the upper mountain lifts and terrain. Riblet has been out of business for some time, and used replacement parts are becoming harder and harder to find.

Further upgrades planned for this summer include installing moving carpet loading platforms on the Powder Park and Pierre's Knob chairlifts that will boost uphill capacity on these existing lifts and ease loading for children and adults alike.

Bridger's master plan calls for lift replacement and realignment in the the Powder Park/3 Bears, Montagne Meadows/Limestone and Bradley Meadows terrain areas in subsequent years.

The new lift will not go by the name Exhibition. And who better to name it than those who will ride it?

Henceroth is accepting suggestions via e-mail at alanh@a-basin.net. Whoever dreams up the winning name will receive a 2010-2011 A-Basin season pass or a $300 gift certificate to Arapahoe Sports.

Official name is Black Mountain Express.

No but I highly doubt it. I don't think Revelstoke is doing much better than Moonlight or Tamarack.

There is currently a rumor that Crystal Mountain (WA) will be installing a gondola (NOT a tram) this summer to run from the base to the Summit House.

Any word on the old Kidderbrook quad being installed at Edelweiss Valley in Quebec? It is still sitting in the parking lot.

I've heard that one as well. (Also here: http://www.tetongrav...ad.php?t=183853) If Crystal Mountain gets a gondola before Sugarloaf, Mainers are going to go crazy!

2 more potential projects for 2010:

Heavenly has plans for a new lift from the bottom of Sky Express to the top of the Gondola. Also a high speed quad to replace Galaxy. Timeframe unknown.

Doppelmayr CTEC is working on an Aerial Tram in Branson, Missouri.
