Meant to go to Big Bear in CA and stumbled upon this by mistake.


There are pictures of construction of this lift on the website. It says that it is going to be a double double. From the looks of this picture it just might be.

Any news or update on the possible installation of the old Kidderbrook quad at Edelweiss in Quebec? I haven't been by there recently to see if the old double is down or not.

News Lifts in Lake Tahoe for the 09/10 Winter Season

Northstar:
Eight Passenger FG Gondola http://static.sdnn.c.../picture-21.png
Bear Paw Quad (Replaces the old Riblet double)

Squaw Valley:
Has replaced one of its triples in the High Camp area with a new one (East Broadway or Bailey's Beach?)

Sugar Bowl:
Has installed a quad to provide access to the ridge atop Mt. Judah

That's a surprising setup on the Northstar gondola. The many sets of two cabins I mean. I guess it will either slow/stop a lot or just run slow all the time.

A pulse setup like that speeds up and slows down as the pods of cars enter the terminals.

Yeah, but with sets of two rather than four it will be slowing down a lot more often. And they look close enough that it won't be going full speed for very long.

‘Magical Flying Beach Chair’ Offers Exhilarating Round-Trip Transfer

Between New $62 Million Cruise Center and Mahogany Beach

MIAMI (October 26, 2009) – A new elevated chair lift – which will offer an exhilarating round-trip transfer between the new Mahogany Bay Cruise Center in Roatan and beautiful Mahogany Beach – will debut in conjunction with the cruise facility’s grand opening next month.

Unique to the Caribbean, the “Magical Flying Beach Chair” will be the first chair lift that transports riders from a cruise ship terminal directly to the beach.

The new beach chair lift will be one of the marquis features of the modern $62 million Mahogany Bay Cruise Center, which will welcome its first cruise ship, Carnival Cruise Lines’ 2,124-passenger Carnival Legend, on Friday, November 20.

The Mahogany Bay Cruise Center, which encompasses 20 acres of waterfront property and includes a two-berth cruise terminal, is a joint project of Carnival Corporation & plc and Roatan businessman Jerry Hynds.

“The ‘Magical Flying Beach Chair’ provides cruise ship guests with a fun and convenient means of getting to and from magnificent Mahogany Beach while offering a bird’s eye view of the beautiful bay and lush countryside of the surrounding area,” “ said Giora Israel, senior vice president of port and destination development for Carnival Corporation & plc.

Guests board the new beach chair lift system at the facility’s expansive Welcome Center and are dropped off directly on Mahogany Beach, a 10-acre private island featuring a gorgeous 825-foot-long white-sand beach replete with lounge chairs, floats, a beach volleyball court and myriad watersports opportunities. There are also eight exclusive cabanas for rent offering private beach access.

Modeled after a traditional ski lift and incorporating the latest technological advancements, the new “Magical Flying Beach Chair” takes cruise ship guests on an exciting, fun-filled six-minute ride across nearly 1,200 feet of cables suspended 67 feet above a lush canopy of trees.

Accommodating four riders each, the galvanized steel beach lift chairs are available to cruise ship guests for a $5 fee which includes unlimited rides throughout the day. Chair lift passes are also included in pre-sold beach activity on board the cruise ships calling at the port. The chair-lift system has the capability of transporting up to 1,500 passengers per hour.

The “Magical Flying Beach Chair” was designed and installed by Rain Forest Trams, a company that owns and operates five world-class adventure parks in Central America and the Caribbean. Rain Forest Trams also operates Mystic Mountain in Jamaica, one of the Caribbean’s top attractions. The beach chair was manufactured by Salt Lake City-based Dopplemayer, a world leader in ropeway engineering.

The chair lift is an exciting feature of the expansive Mahogany Bay project, which includes two cruise ship piers and can accommodate up to 8,000 passengers daily. The facility is expected to host more than 200 cruise ship calls and more than 500,000 passengers annually.

The Mahogany Bay Cruise Center also offers a wide range of retail outlets, including two themed bars, a restaurant and several shops. A transportation hub with the ability to accommodate taxis, rental cars and tour buses, along with a wide range of shore excursion opportunities, are also available.

I assume that this must be a fairly short chair, but the pictures are pretty limited as to the things that we all want to see. How long is the span over water? Do they put towers in the water or just on the edges?

Any thoughts?

The Canyons' new map shows a new lift called Flat Iron. It's a double near Dreamcatcher that accesses a real estate development called "The Colony." Anyone know more details?

Interesting lift, it looks like it will have 2 mid-stations.

Funny, The Canyons snuck new lifts in on us two years in a row.

Three double blue runs for homeowner access? I guess the enormous Colony has expanded in that direction. Another example of ski resort real estate development done wrong from The Canyons - build the houses around the ski terrain, not the other way around. I still advocate chopping off everything to the left of 9990 at The Canyons and calling it what it is (a housing development with cattracks instead of worthwhile ski terrain) but unfortunately, Talisker doesn't listen to me.

However, it sounds like the Iron Mountain expansion is a go for next summer, which would be great. Hopefully it would give the world a reason to go over to that side of the resort.

Has anybody been to The Canyons and ridden the Timberline lift yet?

I rode it in August when we were in SLC for our new lift orientation with Doppelmayr. It's drive and return terminals are at about the same elevation, it's just a connector lift.

Hiya,

A quick note, I rode on the pulse Gondola at N*. It is a link from the Ritz Carlton down to the village. The primary use is for shuttling guests of the RC down to the village and back.

This was a weekend of firsts, my first time to N*, my first time in a RC and my first time on a pulse Gondola. I have to say the gondola ride took an age and was a little uncomfortable, the acceleration/declaration was a new experience and at first I thought it was a problem with the lift - until I realized it was a FG!

Anyhow, the ride took an eon, the stop/start feeling was not great but I have to say, it was pretty sweet being able to step out of the RC and get to the village so easily.

Oh, and if I can ever stay in an RC again I will! But this was a comp room from a friend, I can't normally afford their rates! It was sooo nice having others put on/take off my snowboard boots for me :) Well worth the tip!
