Possible Lifts for Summer 2009

Is it Eco or Echo? For some reason I have it my head as the latter.

Thanks SuperRat and yosemitemtb. Last summer people were calling it "Echo" instead of "Eco."

Here is a pic of the hotel. Seems out of place to buildsomething so big for the area. The other one on top of Deer Crest is out of place as well. I think is like eleven stories tall.

Ahh, I see. This lift would have been perfect for replacing our Badger lift except it is only available in a right side up config. Our hill only works with left side up. I'm currently working in another area of Yosemite (I regularly work in Yosemite Valley for about 2 months in late spring), but it is my understanding that contracts have been signed and Doppelmayr will be replacing our 36 year old Hall sometime this summer, done deal.

I made the same mistake for a while, I first saw "Echo" on this site last year, but its Eco as in "Economical". I was corrected by a Doppelmayr CTEC employee. For a time we at Loon had plans to install an Eco for a real estate development but it was postponed.

Too bad about Little Chief at DV. It was fun for the couple years they had the mini-terrain park off there, but in the last few years they barely ran it or even cleared snow off it after storms, and even when it was open, hardly anyone used it. No great loss for the mountain, except that it's one less piece of Yan history for us chairlift buffs, and it was nice to see the old Homestake/Clipper parts back in action

Lots of lift-moving news today:
According to Brad of Coloradoskihistory.com, Ski Rio, New Mexico removed its Platter as well as the Alpha and Bravo Poma triples last week which hadn't been operated since 2000. Alpha is headed to an unknown resort in Canada, anyone know where? Bravo is going in this summer at Berkshire East. Ski Rio's platter is going to Mohawk Mountain, CT.
Sun Valley is in the process of removing the Exhibition Yan triple in order to make way for the new Doppelmayr CTEC gondola. Good news is that it will see new life at Ski Discovery in Montana. Anyone know when/where it will go in?

My guess would be where I have the arrow pointing. This area is located to the right of the current Jubilee terrain/lift.

Also the Idaho Mountain Express reports that Doppelmayr CTEC won the contract for the Wildhorse Pulse Gondola at Steamboat.

I did not see any article staing this in IME.. nor did Steamboat Pilot, which is usually right on top of ski hill news... do you have a link?

I saw parts for it at the plant last month, unless there's another Nakiska somewhere.

Has anyone in Vermont heard of any lift construction at Middlebury Snow Bowl? I heard the regional Doppelmayr-Ctec crew at Gunstock doing the concrete work will move on to Middlebury to something with a "fixed-grip".

See my column. As of today, tentatively postponed until September, to reopen February. Will finalize decision tomorrow. All parties are here in our office for progress meeting.

3. Tram: The birthday of the Tram was celebrated on Monday afternoon, May 18th. Cake was served and a videographer interviewed residents for Tram stories. The kids did their own signboard birthday card. Overhaul: The schedule for a July 2009 shutdown and December reopening seems to be shifting. The Contractor, POMA, has requested sliding the window of closure to accommodate redesign changes in the structural elements, principally the tower heads and the necessary bracing. Design and fabrication of the various elements is well advanced. Spools of cable have been shipped from Europe. Final details of cabin design are completed and fabrication is underway. Scheduling of tower reinforcing and top replacement, cable pulling, street and park closures, crane locations, etc. with permitting for everything is ongoing, but is dependant on the schedule as established. My best guess is a shutdown in September and a reopening in February. Better coordination with architectural work at the two stations will result. I met again with Community Board 8 on May 5. Architectural work for Tram stations is proceeding. A preliminary sketch of the Manhattan and Island stations will be posted as it is an evolving concept....

It sounds as though Poma will be building two parallel reversible aerial trams that run independently of each other, not in a continuous loop. Doppelmayr wrote a letter to the Roosevelt Island Operating Commission challenging this proposal during the bidding process.
