Update: Looks like the lift has already been finished from the below article, which includes photos of the new lift.

After several delays, the Henry Doorly Zoo Skyfari actually started carrying passengers a couple of weeks ago. I'll get some pictures next time I go there.

The top-to-bottom Summit Triple will be completely refurbished for the 2009-2010 season!
Shawnee Peak will replace the existing lift with new, larger chairs and more efficient mechanicals, which will result in a shorter, more comfortable ride!
The lift in question is a Riblet triple that was built in 1984. It has been listed for sale for a while now on mad river's website.

Sounds like an upgrade not a replacement. Shawnee has been sitting on a 4800' long, 1984 CTEC triple they bought from Loon a few years ago. They originally planned to used it for expansion but maybe their plans have changed.

Temporary lift to be sold to another resort following Games

Work has begun on the new temporary chairlift that will ferry spectators to the Olympic alpine ski events at Creekside.
The Vancouver Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games (VANOC) estimates that the lift will be used to its full capacity at Games-time in February, taking foot traffic from the base of the mountain to the Timing Flats area where the skiers cross the finish line on Whistler Mountain.
The high-speed quad can carry 2,400 people per hour, or almost one-third of the full venue capacity of 7,600 people.
It will be a short two-minute ride from beginning to end.
"We're going to make sure that we maximize the lift for transporting media, broadcast, spectators, work force - anyone who needs to get up to the Timing Flats," said Dick Vollet, the vice president of mountain operations for VANOC.
Other options for getting to the venue are simply walking up the mountain or using the shuttle service drop off which goes directly to the Timing Flats via neighbourhood streets.
The chairlift was never part of VANOC's original plans for the alpine venue but after the test events in 2008, and the issues around moving spectators to the venue, VANOC went back to drawing board.
"When we ran the test event back in 2008, it was very obvious to us that we needed to provide a couple of alternatives for people to get up to the Timing Flats at that venue and the chairlift was the most suitable option," said Vollet.
"It comes back to spectator experience.
"A chairlift is able to load and unload the venue much quicker and a much better experience for the spectators."
Whistler Blackcomb's manager of public relations, Christina Moore, said the lift is too short to be used permanently in Whistler. The lift line is just over 500 metres with 41 chairs.
VANOC is in talks to sell the lift to another resort after the Games but Vollet would not say which resort VANOC is negotiating with because talks are still ongoing.
"It's close to being done," said Vollet.
He would not say how much the lift costs other than to confirm that it was within VANOC's budget.
"The lift is within our project cost," said Vollet.
More than $27 million has been spent on improvements to the Creekside venue for the Games.
Whistler Blackcomb and Doppelmayr are co-managing the chairlift project with VANOC and site preparation began in early May for the foundations for the upper station.
An application has been submitted to the provincial Integrated Land Management Bureau and the parties are awaiting approval for that permit.

Where will this chair be situated? Why do the skilifts in North America always have fantasy names and not the names of the terrain, where they are built?

From today's Steamboat Pilot:
Quote
Steamboat Springs — Hours before a scheduled public hearing Thursday, Intrawest declined to fund a share of a $7 million high-speed people-mover gondola that was to have been a collaboration with Resort Ventures West, developers of Wildhorse Meadows.
Mariana Ishida, development manager for Resort Ventures West, said Thursday night that her company intended to dust itself off and begin planning June 5 for the slower pulse gondola. It previously was approved in the original plans for Wildhorse Meadows.
“We are all really bummed; we were so excited about everything,” Ishida said. “And everyone worked so hard on this — city staff burned the midnight oil getting the (planning documents) ready. But we remain focused on completing a gondola by late this year or early next year.”
City Planner Seth Lorson learned about the change of plans in a short letter from Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. President Chris Diamond that read: “Please accept this letter as officially requesting withdrawal of #DPF-09-03 application.”
The slower gondola reverts to a budget in the neighborhood of $3 million. The pulse gondola will have four cars and pause every time two of them reach the upper and lower terminals.
It will remain a public facility and free to all riders, Ishida said. However, it will not have the uphill capacity to replace the shuttle vans that ferry day skiers from the nearby Meadows parking lot to the base of the ski area.
The gondola now being contemplated would link Trailhead Lodge with the public plaza at One Steamboat Place. The One Steamboat Place development is scheduled to be finished by December.
Diamond said Thursday evening that Intrawest still would like to build the higher speed gondola in the future and understands that when that time arrives, the project will cost more money than it would have this year.
“We’re just a victim of the current economic climate,” Diamond said. “We want to do it. We’re committed to doing it. Over the long term, we feel this is the right solution. Our efforts to date will not be wasted.”
Asked whether it would be possible to someday replace Resort Ventures West’s slower pulse gondola with a high-speed gondola, Diamond said it was “too early” to make that determination. However, he did not rule it out.
“We have the ability to replace (the slower gondola) under our agreement,” Diamond said.
Ishida concurred. She said she did not want to think of the pulse gondola her company is committed to building as a temporary solution, but she acknowledged it could prove someday to have been an interim measure. “At some point in the future, we’ll all sit down again,” Ishida said.
The news about the gondola project broke in late April after Intrawest CEO Bill Jensen made a passing reference to it in a long interview with a reporter for the Summit Daily News while visiting Copper Mountain.
Resort Ventures West and Ski Corp. officials then convened a press conference to lay out the details of the project as it entered the public planning process. City of Steamboat Springs Planning Director Tom Leeson and City Manager Jon Roberts confirmed at that time their willingness to expedite the approval process because of the project’s perceived public benefit.
Although it wasn’t discussed during the press conference, the involved parties were aware that Intrawest’s funding participation wouldn’t be final until Thursday, when the ultimate decisions about capital projects for all Intrawest resorts were voted up or down.
“Basically, today was the fork in the road when the capital plan for Intrawest was approved or not approved,” Diamond said. “Ours was not approved. The reason was the complexity of the global markets and all that mess. It was decided that now is not the time. When we can see that it’s clearly a better time,” the plans could be revisited, Diamond said.
Resort Ventures West principal and Chief Financial Officer Brent Pearson confirmed that he understood all along that there was a chance Intrawest would pull back from the project today.
Pearson said that although his company was not obligated to complete a gondola until 2012, it was important to continue with plans to build it sooner so that the gondola becomes tangible to buyers of luxury condominiums and home sites in the project.
“Even though there is money in the bank to build the gondola, we believe it’s extremely important based on our vision for Wildhorse Meadows that we solidify that vision with our buyers and investors in Trailhead Lodge,” Pearson said. “The vision is going to happen, and it’s going to happen this year.”
Ishida added that Resort Ventures West executives see a benefit to completing the gondola in conjunction with the completion of One Steamboat Place so as not to prolong construction activity. She added that gondola manufacturers Leitner-Poma and Doppelmayr Garaventa U.S.A. continue to have strong interest in the project and engineering teams are essentially in place to start over with a different type of lift.

The latest news is no lift this summer. I hope they at least get the slopes back in shape and fix the drainage. The large amount of mud and stumps that were pushed down the slope from the landslide in Jan has made a mess of the slopes.

I rode my motorcycle up to the top of Hyak today (the ski area cleared the snow off the road where needed, and repaired for truck access at landslide area) and I found they are doing surveying, marking for towers and unload locations. I guess this is a good sign that work is still going on so I wouldn't count them out yet for getting the triple installed this summer yet.

I most certainly agree with that! I didn't know that Google Maps had the ability to show lines like that on online maps. I knwo that you could do that in the actual program, not on Google Maps.

The Eco was new last year. Remember Welch Village's new lift last year? That was the first. The Eco is Doppelmayr CTEC's response to the small ski area operators desire for an economical lift to replace its shorter, lower powered lifts. Gunstock in New Hampshire is also installing an Eco this summer. I've been told the drive terminal was delivered recently.
