Don't forget the replacement of the Outback Express at Mt. Bachelor.
What's the status of the proposed HSQ at Brian Head, UT?

"Lifts will not be operational until November of 2010. We are installing both at the same time and the lift terminal infrastructure has already arrived on site. Yes we do have 1 high-speed and 1 fixed grip. We'll see you in the basin in about 18 months unless you'd like to hike it!"

Terminal structures on site in May........nice early start.......non-operational until November 2010?

It does not sound like they have any intention of replacing OBX. They shut it down this last winter to 2 days a week.. apparently they are going to replace most of the electrical on NWX since they can't seem to get the spacing worked out - at a rather high cost and will rely on NWX for the majority of the traffic on that side of the Butte, running OBX only on busy holiday periods.... at least for now...

There was an article in the Bend Bulletin about the replacement of Outback Express early last season that it will be done this summer or next.
However, it sounds like plans are moving forward for the Sunriver Express at Mt. B.

I would hesitate to place any value on their predictions, they have been inaccurate in the past. Those 2 lifts at LL have been predicted on their site for many years, only to be removed later. In the past they have put projects such as the Killington-Pico interconnect and Saddle Mountain Resort, BC on their lists as well.

The lift related parts:
BSW:
What are the plans with regard to replacing the Gondola?
SK:
There are no short term plans for any replacement as the lift line pressure here at Big Sky is some of the least in all of North America. However, dependent on growth and the economy we have two alternative plans that could play out as demand warrants. One option discussed is to build a gondola or Hybrid Chair/Gondola “chondola” from the village up to the base of the tram with a restaurant at the top terminal. The second option would be to build a new high-speed chairlift, roughly along the extended line of the Explorer lift. It would then link, somewhere near the bottom of the Crazy Horse headwall, with a new high-speed replacement for the Lone Peak Triple. That plan would give us two entry points on to the mountain, cycling capability from Challenger to the Bowl and would have the advantage that chairlifts are less wind affected than gondolas. In addition, on really windy days we could still run the lower lift. So at this point we see the second option as more viable and realistic.
BSW:
Any more thoughts on the Liberty Bowl chairlift?
SK:
I am beginning to feel that a lift there is not the solution, and my brother John feels the same way. It could turn Liberty Bowl into a mogul field if there was much more capacity added. Perhaps we will look at the idea again if we have significantly higher skier visits – and then maybe only a low capacity lift such as a Poma lift – like the top of Snowmass.
