Purely speculation, but replacement of Chair 6/Snow Ghost at Schweitzer with a HSQ? I have word from staff that Snow Ghost will be the next of the doubles to go, once the economy begins to recover.

Doppelmayr will be building an Aerial Tramway in Copper Canyon, Mexico for 2010. The project also will include a gondola and a second Aerial Tram.

The Olympic Regional Development Authority approved the Gore Mountain/North Creek Ski Bowl interconnect on Friday. Construction will start this summer and will be completed next summer for an opening for the 2010-2011 ski season. The lift going in is a used fixed grip triple that is already at Gore in the parking lot, I'm not sure where it's from. The lift line is marked on the below map as "North Creek/Gore Detachable Access Lift." The original plan was for it to be a high speed quad but this is the line for the triple.

Don't forget the replacement of the Outback Express at Mt. Bachelor.

What's the status of the proposed HSQ at Brian Head, UT?

I got confirmation in an email that the 2 new lifts at White Pass that have been started will not be completed until 2010.

"Lifts will not be operational until November of 2010. We are installing both at the same time and the lift terminal infrastructure has already arrived on site. Yes we do have 1 high-speed and 1 fixed grip. We'll see you in the basin in about 18 months unless you'd like to hike it!"

I never said it would be replaced for sure, I said it had been mentioned. It's on Crystal's blog.

It does not sound like they have any intention of replacing OBX. They shut it down this last winter to 2 days a week.. apparently they are going to replace most of the electrical on NWX since they can't seem to get the spacing worked out - at a rather high cost and will rely on NWX for the majority of the traffic on that side of the Butte, running OBX only on busy holiday periods.... at least for now...

There was an article in the Bend Bulletin about the replacement of Outback Express early last season that it will be done this summer or next.

However, it sounds like plans are moving forward for the Sunriver Express at Mt. B.

Bear Valley, California's proposed 8,000 foot long Village Express lift was approved today as part of the resort's Master Development Plan. The Final Environmental Impact Statement says the lift will likely be built next Summer. Bear Valley recently installed a Leitner-Poma detachable so it is likely their second detachable will also be a Leitner-Poma. However, due to property lines, the Village Express will have a slight turn approximately halfway along its route, which seems to be a Doppelmayr CTEC specialty. I know Snowbird, The Canyons, Deer Valley, and Moonlight Basin have all had Doppelmayr CTEC lifts with slight turns accomplished through angled sheaves. Does Leitner-Poma have this capability or would it have to have a midstation if built by them?

Capability? Of course. Almost any fixed grip by Poma or Leitner-Poma has a slight deviation at the return station due to a smaller return bullwheel. This of course uses canted sheaves, so that could be applied to a detachable also.

I would hesitate to place any value on their predictions, they have been inaccurate in the past. Those 2 lifts at LL have been predicted on their site for many years, only to be removed later. In the past they have put projects such as the Killington-Pico interconnect and Saddle Mountain Resort, BC on their lists as well.

Boyne has no money to do much of anything so very unlikely this work will happen.

FYI, at Hyak the ski area has cut a path through the trees for the new double chair install that is to be done in Hidden Valley. It appears they may have also done the surveying for locations of the towers too, but I'm not 100% on that. Maybe this install will happen next season with the front side Triple chair (cross fingers).

Boyne did just announce $1.8 million in improvements for this summer in Maine, so they can't be doing too badly.

I came across this interview with Stephen Kircher of Boyne in the Big Sky Weekly:
http://www.thebigskyweekly.com/node/93

The lift related parts:

BSW:
What are the plans with regard to replacing the Gondola?
SK:
There are no short term plans for any replacement as the lift line pressure here at Big Sky is some of the least in all of North America. However, dependent on growth and the economy we have two alternative plans that could play out as demand warrants. One option discussed is to build a gondola or Hybrid Chair/Gondola “chondola” from the village up to the base of the tram with a restaurant at the top terminal. The second option would be to build a new high-speed chairlift, roughly along the extended line of the Explorer lift. It would then link, somewhere near the bottom of the Crazy Horse headwall, with a new high-speed replacement for the Lone Peak Triple. That plan would give us two entry points on to the mountain, cycling capability from Challenger to the Bowl and would have the advantage that chairlifts are less wind affected than gondolas. In addition, on really windy days we could still run the lower lift. So at this point we see the second option as more viable and realistic.
BSW:
Any more thoughts on the Liberty Bowl chairlift?
SK:
I am beginning to feel that a lift there is not the solution, and my brother John feels the same way. It could turn Liberty Bowl into a mogul field if there was much more capacity added. Perhaps we will look at the idea again if we have significantly higher skier visits – and then maybe only a low capacity lift such as a Poma lift – like the top of Snowmass.
