While skiing at Keystone yesterday, 3/21/09:

This first picture is the bottom terminal of the Montezuma Express lift.

Apparently, these two towers here are all that remains of the Saint's John double chairlift. These two towers are below the cliff that the trail Frenchman passes around. If you look close enough, you can see that the sheaves still exist on the lift line.

At this time, Keystone was passing through the end of a long dry week, so the bowls were pretty much clean of snow but most of the below treeline stuff was fairing well. There are some bare patches showing up under the lower segment of the Santiago Express lift line, and the lift line of the Ruby Express below Diamondback is cleared of snow. Pictures:

And here, just some more random lift pictures:

This is not really a lift picture, but it was taken on the Montezuma Express lift.

OK, it's a little :offtopic: , but I was able to at the end of the day get this picture showing a helicopter taking off from the medical center at Mountain House.

I still like calling my own pictures some really :kewlpics: .

A windy day at Vail. Taken from the top of Tea Cup Express. There was a white board in the liftie's shack begging the question, "Is it windy?" To that I say yes.

Brings tears to my eyes to see those old towers from the former St. John's lift. She served Keystone well for 30+ years and I rode her a few times.

Of course, that's all that's left of Saint's John. If it still existed, I could picture what it would look like on today's hill side, and most of the lift line is still visible. Only those two towers are what actual equipment still exists at Keystone.

By the way, I have some :kewlpics: from Vail from today. Here are three of the Orient Express lift. You can see the Teacup Express lift on the background hillside in the second shot. Bill, you can use them in the gallery for the Orient Express lift if you want:

Here are some pics of a home made single chairlift built at Falls Creek, Australia in the 1950's.

A bloke called Bill Hymans saw a pile of wooden power poles left over from a hydro electric scheme and had an idea.
A couple of months later, this was the result!

Those were the days! You would never get away with doing that sort of thing today.

I know it doesn't show a ski lift, but here is a terrific 1933 poster advertising the Australian ski fields to homesick Europeans working in Java in the Dutch East Indies, (now Indonesia).

This might be the last year to ride this dino..... :) Though the grape vine around here it's been said that she will not be operating for the 09-10 season but will remain in place...

Mt. Bachelor's Pine Marten Express lost one of its tower heads/lift frames this winter, most likely during the ice storm.

Yea. Now that I'm off the clock I can go into more detail. AFter I took the phottos of her digging in the trash she came over to the lift and lay downed on a chiar. She layed there while we were doing switch checks and when I started the lift she did not get off until the chair went around the bullwheel to the unload deck. I wished I had the camera out for this but I had to get the lift turning.

Nice photo, During grooming I would always see coyotes on the trails, looking for mice that didn't escape Our tiller, or just walking around. Here is one that i saw almost every night.

 Looks like one of those old fixed grip towers from many 1980s fixed grip triples and doubles!

I still think they should get Big Burn running for at least five or more years and then replace it. It's a needed lift, since you know that there's a cat track you need to take to the Sheer Bliss Express lift if they say it won't be there for the 09-10 season. :cursing: Point proved. To get from the bottom of the Big Burn Express lift to the bottom of the Sheer Bliss Express is via a catwalk, and snowboarders don't want the catwalk. :helpsmilie:

While looking for hiking trails in Aspen, I stumbled across a members profile on YouTube who has shot several 'on-ride' experience videos of what it's like to ride the lifts at Copper Mountain and the Aspen Resorts.

http://www.youtube.c...ser/snowzoomcom

WARNING: You may end up wasting several minutes/hours of your life as you virtually ride all of the lifts he has recorded.

Here is a cool 360 degree time lapse of riding up the Silver Queen Gondola at Aspen: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=KdYf62ZP_TY
