I haven't heard any confirmations yet, just the rumours that chair 6 is up for replacement.

Good to hear, shelldog. Do you know if the pulse will have 8 passenger cabins or smaller?

I never knew they were considering building a replacement for the Roosevelt Island Tramway! :w00t: I bet now there's going to be more subway ridership on the F train between its Roosevelt Island station and its first Manhattan stop at Lexington Avenue-63rd Street.

I know it's not going to happen soon at Vail, but I really think that the High Noon and Sun Up triple chairlifts should be replaced with high speed quads to cut down on the lines. Their lines are too long to justify being fixed grip. Why can't they replace the f :censored2: king lifts sooner?

The replacement of #5 along with another HSQ in Sundown Bowl is set for the summer of 2010.

It will have the 8 passenger CWA cabins, 8 groups of 2 cabins. I think

However, some people say Sundown Bowl's risking getting tracked out if a lift goes in there. It should just stay as is. A HSQ should really just go to Sun Up, but let things go and it's a wait and see.

No new lifts at any Vail Resorts this year, from their 2nd Quarter Earnings Report released today:

"In recognition of the current economic climate, and given the significant investments that the Company has made in resort assets over the past several years, the Company expects to spend approximately $50 million to $60 million of resort capital expenditures in calendar 2009, including $32 million to $37 million for "maintenance" capital expenditures that the Company believes are necessary to maintain the high quality appearance and level of service at the Company's five ski resorts and throughout its hotels. Highlights of the "maintenance" capital expenditures include: snow-cat replacements; lift upgrades; snowmaking equipment; lodging furniture, fixture & equipment and rental equipment fleet capital. This year's discretionary projects will include: a skier bridge at Keystone following the completion of the new Keystone gondola, enabling guests easier access to ski across the river to the new base of the gondola and River Run Village; the build-out of a new restaurant at Peak 7 in Breckenridge in conjunction with the Crystal Peak Lodge real estate project; completion of a brand new online planning and booking platform, offering guests a much more seamless and useful way to make reservations at the Company's resorts; and a new tubing lift and tubing hill expansion at Heavenly to generate both winter and summer business."

The Wildhorse Gondola at Steamboat is 95% confirmed for a July start this summer. It is now planned to be a Dopp detachable instead of the previously planned pulse gondi.

Steamboat must have some contractual obligations for this I'm guessing. We got the intrawest financial picture yesterday and its pretty bleak. Certainly no lift money for us for the forseeable future.

To my knowledge, this gondola is being put in by a real-estate development firm, so I doubt Intrawest's financial obligation is little to none at all.

Edelweiss Valley, Quebec is getting a used Poma Alpha quad to replace the Poma double. It's already sitting in the parking lot all wrapped up. Any further details from someone in the know?

I think it must be the Kidderbrook Quad from Stratton, VT which was removed in 2007. There have only been 8 Poma quads removed in North America, and all the others have been relocated already.

When a lift is bought used or 'relocated' is it installed in its original configuration always? As in if it was originally a top drive it will be still a top drive or does it change more often than not?

Whats involved with changing its drive location? Can a top drive , lower return still be used at the top?

I'm just looking at the Stratton quad that may be the one that ended up at Edelweiss. Its a top drive, and i'm trying to determine if it will be set up in that configuration

KIDDERBROOK QUAD (POMA) - Constructed in 1989 to serve new terrain in the Kidderbrook area. This quad was
removed in summer 2007 as it was deemed underutilized after the installation of the Shooting Star six pack near by.
Part of the lift will be going to Jay Peak while part will go to Mt. Saint Saveur. It is a possibility that a high speed lift
could one day run again along this liftline.


So it's confirmed , atleast part of this quad will end up at Edelweiss. Well the drive is already there atleast.

Another article mentioning Gore plans to install the Ski Bowl connector lift this summer....

I'm not aware of the specifics, but i do know that the reason Wildhorse went from a pulse design to a detachable was because SSRC/Intrawest wanted to use the gondola for people parking in the meadows lot - and more importantly for access to future development in / around that lot on property Intrawest owns. So I'm sure they are chipping in.
