I'm still holding on to my HP dv1000 laptop as long as I can. I got it in 2005 and it's still working fine with no problems, which seeing my track record for ridiculous computer problems is something to be proud of. It's not as fast as it once was, but it was cheap and it's been really nice having a laptop. 60 gig hard drive, 512 mb of ram, 1.6 ghz Pentium M, 14.1 inch screen, XP. As much as I love my PC, I use my MacBook 95% of the time. Whenever it's in my room, I hook it up to my 22" LG Monitor with a Mini-DVI Adapter and with a Mac Keyboard and Wireless Mighty Mouse, it turns my Mac into a powerful dual monitor desktop/laptop It makes me glad I never did buy a iMac a year back. This setup is even better.

Think my computer would be the oldtimer here.....

Self completed desktop AMD 0,5 ghz, 1024 mb ram, one 45 gb and one partitioned 250 gb wd - harddisc, ATI all in wonder graphic (used to capture my videos), still running with W95b cause i still need the possibility of some special Dos - based software.

My computer is about 7 years old, and I tried to use the system restore but it doesn't work, because I have a few viruses there. I have to remove Windows Installation and do reinstall windows. Now I use a second computer, which it was cheap, limit memories and slow. It is yucker!!!

I have Windows Live Onecare program but my computer got viruses (I believe one of my children opened attachement file from their email and my computer got it). I don't know which anti-virus program is good...guys can you tell me which one is good?

Avast antivirus 4 is what I would recommend for a very reliable virus protection software. It is free to download and use for non-commercial home use.

While it was very expensive and may be some what overkill, it was badly needed. Now I will have the desire to work on Skilifts.org because my current desktop could not longer handle my multimedia programs. I was going to get a Dell XPS 420, but it no longer came with Windows XP and it's a pain in the ass to get it to function correctly after recent hardware changes. This computer will replace my old Gateway Performance XL which I've had since early 2000.

I hope Dell was smart enough to put in XP 64bit OS? Standard 32 bit XP can't use more than 3 megs of RAM, I found out the hard way by installing 2+2GB of RAM in my first build, but fortunately Newegg took the RAM back and gave me full credit. It may also not allow the RAM to utilize dual channel either, so I was told.

My computer is coming with Windows XP 32 bit. This is another reason why I had Windows XP installed because I have too many expensive programs that only work with Windows XP 32 bit, like my Macromedia package and Adobe stuff. It's not worth it to spend $1,200 on new software. Plus, most games don't work for Windows 64 bit systems either.

While I'm aware Windows can't handle 4 GB RAM, it can handle 3.33, so the 4 GB of RAM in the computer will still allow it to function. To my knowledge you can have more DDR2 RAM in the computer, but Windows 32 bit OSs won't recognize it, although more than 2GB of DDR3 will cause it to freeze on boot up.
