I don't think the uni-gs is that bad, I just like the looks of the uni-g better. Plus I think it is neat that there is a new style of uni-g in the states with the install of this gondola.
And yes, as of now the uni-gs is only available in 4 and 6 CLD lifts.

The 8 Passenger Gondola in Texas that was built last summer is a Uni-GS.

I would say that they are slipping a track rope (although unless that is a long terminal it is a short slip) or they are going to repair the socket on the end connection of the CWT. They could be replacing the bearings on the deflection sheave, actually it could be a number to maintenance items.

Well it looks like Alyeska's chair 3 is complete. This is the second Doppelmayr CTEC lift completed this summer and both have Doppelmayr EJ chairs. What ever happened to these being discontinued?

Personally, I really like the EJ carriers. I think that they are comfortable enough and they look pretty good aesthetically.
It seems like a good idea to have the EJ carriers, because I'm sure they're less expensive compared to the new style. They lack the super comfortable seat cushions and other perks like that. I'm sure any resort looking for a better deal might choose the EJ carriers to save a little.

Interestingly, Bear Creek in Pennsylvania has built 3 Doppelmayr CTEC quads in the past 5 years and one has the CTEC chairs, one has the Garaventa chairs, and the new one has the EJ chairs.

There were never any Garaventa chairs in the USA. There were various types of CTEC models, but Garaventa never did much more than put their toe into North America. This is the most recent Garaventa chair before their merger with Doppelmayr.

The Peak 2 Peak cabins are going on the line today.
As early as 8 a.m. on Friday, September 19, twelve PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola Sky Cabins will make the very first, epic journey across the 4.4km/2.73 mile span between Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains. With the official opening day of December 12, 2008 announced this milestone is all the more exciting.
“To finally have Sky Cabins move from one mountain to the other really crystallizes what we have accomplished here through two summers of construction,” says Rick Temple, PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola Construction Manager. “It is going to be an awesome sight for the entire PEAK 2 PEAK team, our employees and for the whole community of Whistler.”
Whistler Blackcomb’s PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola will officially open to the public December 12, 2008. This engineering marvel is set to become a new Canadian tourism icon, and will forever revolutionize the way visitors experience this all-season resort.

The Garaventa crew pulled full tension on the 4 track ropes this past week. That's the rig they use. We finished up the week insulating the upper terminal hydraulic box that operates the top terminal gates. Plans are to splice the haul rope Oct. 7 and the cabins should go on line the week after.

Does anyone know what the silver thing is in the lower left of the first picture (trailer?) and also what type/brand/model of backup engine that is? Twin turbo obviously...
That silver trailer and a matching black one are trailers that can be used to haul skiers to the cat accessed skiing we have at the top of Dercums, North Peak, and the Outback. The information I got was that one spent the winter down last year but I believe that one was utilized for the cat skiing as well as cat tours. They are also fully inclosed and heated with RV propane furnaces.
