Possible Lifts for Summer 2008

Quad chairs are POMA's "Super-Comfort" model with individually padded seats and full one piece back cushions, with retention bars and footrests.

That is strange that Telluride went with POMA as all of their previous installations are all Doppelmayr or CTEC with the exception of the two SLI lifts. Then again it probably has to do with shipping costs since grand junction is much closer than salt lake.

Probably because its new GM is brand loyal to Leitner-POMA since he came from Mt. Hood Meadows.

He actually was just asked this question on the blog:

"Very good question. Several things go into a decision like this in addition to the contract price. We received bids from both Leitner-POMA and Doppelmayr-CTEC. Both companies have evolved their product over the years and build exceptional lifts. POMA is a "local" company as their plant is in Grand Junction, just a few hours away. Service after the installation is a strong consideration. One of the things I really like about POMA is the chair design. You'll realize what I mean when you sit on it. I'm not saying anything bad about Doppelmayr but I felt it was an opportunity to give POMA a shot at Telluride and let our staff and customers experience the product as services. This will certainly not be the last chairlift built at Telluride."

Sounds like he thinks the Poma chairs are more comfy!

Whitetail, PA is building a new (used) double chair to service their terrain park:
http://www.dcski.com/articles/view_article...;mode=headlines

and a possible new lift for Ski Bromont, Quebec:

Ski Bromont asks clients where they want to spend next year
Published by Mike Styles on May 5, 2008 in Ski Canada and Ski North America.
Ski Bromont in Quebec have taken the unusual step of asking their clientèle exactly where they would like a $7m investment to be spent.
The resort has given its customers the cloice of extending the main chalet or installing a new ski lift on the Versant des Épinettes.
More than 12,000 people took the time to express their preference and the votes and comments are still being counted.

So far, the results show a tendency towards the ski lift and more sitting room in the modules.”

said a company spokesman.
“Over the next few weeks, Ski Bromont will attempt to take the best strategic, financial and workable decision, taking into account the schedule. Everything is under study at this time, but you can be assured that 2008-2009 will be full of great surprises!” he added.

Well this one is already done! It is at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and it is a used Garaventa CTEC quad that was load tested on April 16th. Anyone know where it came from?

The quickness of the expansion of Bromont is amazing. If they put another chair in that will be 5 or 6 years in a row(maybe even 7). Can't believe how different the trail map is from just 4 years ago when I skied there. Last year they put in a double, not sure if it was used or not, I assume it was. Never noticed anywhere in the Summer 2007 thread...

In case anybody likes to keep track the new lift for 2007-2008 is their #8 chair on this map, you can also see the location of the proposed new lift...

Hey Skier,
You can remove the Whistler Blackcomb Timing Flats Cabriolet for this years list. It's now scheduled for next year, but the way VANOC is cutting budgets, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets axed altogether. The Kadenwood lift is proceeding, but the owners keep changing their mind about where to put it. They will need to get it figured out soon or it will be too late.

You can add Beech mtn NC to the list.....they are removing the Oz double...lift #7 on the backside and replacing it with a fixed grip quad...make unknown as of yet ...tubing makes a return this year and a new area...the old tubing hill.... will be utilized for their second terrain park.....so I figure there will be another surface lift added somewhere on the hill......

Eaglecrest, Alaska has some exciting projects in the works for this summer and next:

The residents of Juneau approved an $800,000 ballot measure to construct a mid-mountain chairlift. In order to obtain the funding, Eaglecrest was required to raise an additional $100,000. A capital campaign was developed and over $225,000 was raised. A very generous grant of $200,000 from the Rasmuson Foundation provided additional funds for this project.

April 22, 2008 - ARETE Construction has been awarded the Mid-Mountain Chairlift and access road project. The bid amount of $1.132 million falls within the Engineer's estimate and rock blasting, which is the first step of the project could begin in a few weeks. Construction timelines will be developed and released shortly. We anticipate the top and bottom terminal and towers will be constructied this summer with final cable installation excepted mid-summer 2009. This chairlift was purchased used from a ski area in the Lake Tahoe area and has been shipped to Eaglecrest.

Beginner Chairlift
While searding for a chairlift to suit the needs of the mid mountain lift, a smaller chairlift was found in Aspen, Colorado. The Aspen Skiing Company donated the lift to Eaglecrest for the cost of removal and shipping. This chairlift will replace the Platter surface lift. Eaglecrest received a $100,000 grant from the Rasmuson Foundation to partially fund this project.

Eaglecrest is currently waiting for a permit from the Army Corps of Engineers along with profile design drawings from Doppelmayr CTEC.

lol, thanks for the teaser. My guess is this is in reference to Boyne's frequent rumor to replace Meadows quad (first quad in the world) with a HSS. I'm sure they will do it someday but it has been a rumor for at least 10 years now.

Is Eaglecrest a nonprofit ski area, or do they just know how to get tons of grants?
