Huntsville, UT - Snowbasin Resort will begin construction in June on a new detachable quad chair lift at the Utah ski and snowboard resort.



The new chairlift will replace the Little Cat lift which services beginning terrain. The bottom terminal will be located above Earl’s Lodge and the upper terminal will end at the upper parking lot. The new lift will be 1,578 feet in length with a vertical rise of 173.5 feet. A 1,000 foot per minute line speed will yield a carrying capacity of 2,600 people per hour.

The new lift will better accommodate the beginning skier by reducing the intimidation from downhill skier traffic and easing loading and unloading due to the detachable lift's design.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in October in time for the 2008-09 ski season.

I have to disagree with you... Can You picture Gemini at Winter Park being a FG lift?

Before saying that it's a waste of Techology think about why it will be 100% better!

Well, I guess there would be fewer loading problems, but still, detachable beginner lifts don't make much sense to me.

If you have to run an FG at a slow .5 m/s in order for beginners to load, then the entire line has to ride at that speed. If it is a detachable lift, it can be slowed down in the terminal and the line will still go fast. I can only see the problem with unloading perhaps.

Did Steamboat decide against the Thunderhead replacement with HSS and relocating the existing HSQ to replace Elkhead or has it been pushed ahead?

That's it!!?? I thought they were planning on installing three detach quads at Revelstoke.

Also, Leitner-Poma installed a detachable quad at Cardrona in New Zealand this past winter.

I haven't heard anything recently, most of the lift discussions here lately have been about the 2nd gondola. going from a pulse design to a full detach has created issues with terminal locations, etc. I did see thunderhead running on 4/24 - probably inspection of some sort.

The Lift Maintenance Manager at Snowbasin shot me back a reply regarding an e-mail I had sent awhile back asking about the Littlecat Double and any other possible changes comming for Snowbasin.

Your E-mail was forwarded to me a while ago and I wanted to wait until I knew for sure. I would have hated to continue with the rumors about a new Littlecat lift. Fact is we are going to replace Littlecat lift and move it to the east near the original location of a T-bar I am told. Lift stats: Doppelmayr/CTEC detachable Quad out of Canada, 1564 feet in length, vertical rise 173 feet, 1000 feet per minute, 2600 pph, 43 chairs with a ride time of 2.3 minutes. I would think that if you are coming out this way this summer you will see some real progress on the construction, provided the snow finally melts.

Thank you for your interest in Snowbasin. I will get with the GM sometime and inquire about joining skilifts.org, we all visit the site from time to time. Next rumor... detachable Quad from just below Strawberry Gondola up to Dan's Saddle.

It is our pleasure to announce that Telluride Ski and Golf is installing a new fixed-grip quad chairlift and again expanding advanced terrain. The new lift - called "Revelation" - will expand into the long-awaited and anticipated "Revelation Bowl" terrain and add vertical rise to the entire ski resort.

Environmentally responsible helicopter construction techniques will be used on this project. Construction is scheduled to be completed by November 15, 2008.
